There needs to be an asterisk for the guys that on could play three years.
David Thompson averaged 24, 26, 29.9 thats just a little bit better than the non national title guy that is about to break the record.

Pistol Pete didn't need no asterisk to still be the NCAA All Time scorer.

I question not DT's 2300 points in 86 games, but more how Dick Hemric played from 1952-1958. I couldn't find out how many games he played, but he wouldn't have been allowed to play as a freshman either right?

Here's the link to all-time leading scorers and games played

edit---Doh, looks like Hemric played four years, 52-55. Hmm, when did the freshman rule come into place?

Lets also keep in mind how many games college teams play these days...compared to the good old days.

This is another reason K will eventually surpass Dean Smith. Sure, Dean coached in the 90's along with K, so he got a lot of games then...but in the 60's and 70's, nobody was playing 37 games in a season.

Similar for the NCAA Tourney...easier to pile up wins these days since you potentially play 6 games.

I'm not knocking anyone, or saying that any asterisks are needed, just saying the era of the sport must always be considered. I'm not sure, but I think Bernie Williams is the all time post season HR leader....but there are 3 rounds of playoffs in baseball now.

I think they did it in the late 50s or early 60s when the ACC had problems with the point shaving scandals - ACC made it a rule before the NCAA did IIRC

True, Thompson played in 86 games, so just under 29 games a year for him.

edit--Duke played a record 40 games, winning a record 37 in 1986. I believe they also won 37 out of 39 in 1999 ironically. As far as I know, 37 wins is still the NCAA record for a season, too bad the 38th was the one we needed both times :banginghe

True. For awhile there I thought you guys were gonna take us out of the largest defeat record too. Would have been a nice reversal since we took that record from you.

that there pretty much shuts up any dumbass fucktard who would suggest that scoring records should be asterisked to take into account someone only played three years.

I saw on Sportscenter that Hemric played in somewhere around 105 or 106 games and Redick is currently around 133, but Hemric also played part of his career outside the ACC since it didn't come in till 1953. I still can't get over the number of rebounds he had. Shelden Williams is about 600 short of him and will probably end up being the all time leader at Duke. That's unbelievable.

I agree with this. If JJ Scores the points he's the top. Period. It'll be a solid achievement by him.
