If I had that kind of access to Coach K I think the last thing I would ask him is what position Kyle Singler plays.


Because I already know he's got a shitty handle and plays forward.

Tigers will finish in the top 3 or 4 in league. If they get some good guard play, they could challenge for the top of the league IMO.

 

oh im not saying they're gonna suck. they have just started out the past 2 years at what 17-0 and 16-0 ? and then for whatever reason (maybe better competition) their play drops off. you're right wiseone they'll be in the top 3 or 4. i just dont think they're good enough to win it. carolina is better and duke is better. yea i remember that beating they put on duke. don't see that happening again this year though. i think duke is way above where they were last year. time will tell. i could be completely wrong.

 

The most intelligent Duke fan on this board, and the most intelligent one I've ever interacted with in my life, agrees that Singler is a forward. He can play two positions, small forward and power forward. He's 6'9, he's not a fuckin guard. Carolina doesn't have shooters. Duke doesn't have slashers, you know guys like Henderson who can drive and create and have good mid-range shots. Carolina turns the ball over too much, you beat a zone with good passing. Coach K should seriously consider playing zone against everybody because his team has no quality depth.

 

nolan smiths a slasher. dawkins is a slasher. yea you're so right. duke has no quality depth. i mean we just got the plumlee brothers, lance thomas, singler (since you're so freakin sure hes a "big" man) heck why dont he just play center. he's 6'8, not 6'9. hes listed at small forward. he played power forward last year CUZ DUKE HAD NO ONE ELSE TO. hes not a "forward". hes a small forward. you know what that is in basketball ? if you ever played basketball in your life you know that sg and sf play on the wings. a 3 doesnt go post up. so no i dont consider him a post player. i consider him a small forward ( a big guard). lebron james plays 3 in the nba. is he not a guard ? mj was a small forward. is he not a guard either ? you're so ignorant. carmello anthony was a small forward in college. was he not an outside guy ? a 2 and a 3 are interchangeable. it doesnt really matter in college which one you play. when you run offensive plays both of them do the same freakin thing. the only difference is on defense. and yes singler can guard guys like will graves for unc since he plays sf. duke switches all ball screens except zoubek doesnt switch. you know why ? because they are expected to be able to guard any position. singler is a small forward who can play the 2, the 3, or the 4. and last year he played center some because duke had no inside guys. this year they do.

He doesn't play center because he isn't a strong enough rebounder and his offensive game is outside oriented. Centers don't shoot three pointers. Sorry, I missed by an inch. He's listed at small forward because he is a small forward.

The 3 is typically the most athletic player on your roster. They can hit a jump shot against a bigger player and beat a smaller player in the post.

That's funny, because the website of the Cleveland Cavs and the Denver Nuggets list both LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony as forwards. Michael Jordan wasn't a small forward. Scottie Pippen was the small forward.

There is a big difference on defense and offensively your small forward is more versatile and can play inside or outside, which is what makes Singler a small forward. Key word being forward, especially considering his secondary position is power forward. There is a difference between being a "wing" and being a "forward". A wing is a player like Danny Green or Gerald Henderson, who is more of an outside shooter, but is also a slasher who gets to the rim. A forward is somebody like Singler or Reyshawn Terry, who can shoot the jump shot and play in the post.

Singler can't play the two. Show me a lineup that Duke has put on the floor where Singler is your shooting guard.
