    It's not about academics. If there was not huge sums of dinero involved do you think we would even be discussing expansion and super conferences, etc? If the academics match that's great, but the impetus behind all this is money.

    Yes, money is a factor. It's naive to think otherwise, but Collin is dead on about academics being a major concern in regards to the ACC.

    Academics won't get you in, but academics will keep you out.

    [gottalaff/VA49er] It's just that simple. I don't see what's so hard to understand.[gottalaff/VA49er].

    I think a fair way to look at it would be that the ACC realizes that the landscape is changing and is trying to get ahead of it so that academics can matter in who they take. If it were later in the process and they had to grab leftovers to get to 16, then academics wouldn't matter...but they're not there, so it does.

    I can respect both you and Collin's opinions and can see where academics may play a minor role. However, I still contend that $$$ wins out over academics with regard to the current conference realignments.

    Exactly. Adding Syracuse & Pittsburgh doesn't suddenly earn the ACC a lot more money.

    Well sure, academics isn't the most important thing or conferences would be raiding the Ivy League. The problem was you saying that academics isn't a factor at all.

    Georgia Tech = #36
    Maryland = #55

    So the ACC has seven schools in the top 50. The Pac-12 has five, the Big 10+x has five, and the SEC has one.
