I do not see why the ACC, after 50 years of sports greatness wants to change to a 12 team format that could separate rivalries, create schedule problems, and mess with a perfect formula. I heard announcer say that the ACC should do it because the Big 4 (ACC, SEC, Big 10, Big 12) all have double digit teams, but honestly, who wants to be like the other three conferences when you have the best conference already. In football, the #3 team in the conference (which would be second in one of the divisions) would probably be ranked around #10 in the nation would not get to play another top 10 team like Florida State or Miami. My main beef is with the basketball. I don't see a positive in sight for basketball. The ACC will always be great, but Virginia Tech and Miami are almost always horrible in the sport. Syracuse is too far away, as is Boston College. Each team got to play each other 2 times, one away, and one home. Now, if you are put into a conference with Duke, UNC, and Maryland you are almost screwed to the point of no recovery. This will almost surely have to be done. By only playing a team once, and having to play a team like Duke and Maryland twice, when others don't have to is a huge disadvantage that could result in not making the tournament if you are on the bubble or not. All and all, it messes with tradition and if it isn't broken, don't fix it.

If they come, they come. We have to except it. There's a phrase that I've learn in many of my business classes...

"The more things change, the more they stay the same."

I didn't like the idea at first but it's for the better.

you HAVE to expand... if they didn't the ACC would possibly be picked apart itself... Florida St. was possibly gonna be taken away if they didn't... if they los Fl. ST. they become a mediocre football conference which takes away revenue and barganing ability with television and radio markets... you take away from that money then all of the school's sports hurt and the teams POSSIBLY all become mediocre due to insufficient funds for the athletic departments... as far as basketball goes Miami doesn't bring much nor does VT, but Cuse and BC bring in two solid performers PLUS they open a new area to recruiting possibilities... which would allow ACC coaches to say "Hey come play for us we'll be playing near your home and you can have your family and friends watch you play"... that goes a long way with recruits.

a 12-team conference will be great for basketball? you want to keep getting 4 schools into the tournament?

look what it's done for hoops in the sec and the big 12 -- they get more teams in. it looks better for a school to finish 3rd in a division than 6th overall. plus, with not having to play EVERY team twice, there's more chance to have a better record -- instead of beating up on each other.

expansion will be better for the acc.

how about a new tradition of national dominance in football and basketball? nobody will ever be able to say the acc is a weak conference in football, or just a three-team basketball conference with a bunch of also-rans.

I personally couldn't care less how it effects Duke and Carolina B-Ball. Bring it!

Yes it will be a scheduling nightmare to start with, but the ACC needs to do this now. IF we don't expand, there is too much talk about FSU leaving and from what I hear Ga. Tech right after them.
