You must be nuts. Clearly, Coach K deserves it for inspiring the #1 ranked team to come back from 12 behind against an unranked opponent!

I don't like like the Heels but Roy has outdone himself coaching this year. One things for sure Dean Smith could have never done what Roy has this year.

If you are a #1 ranked team you shouldn't be behind by 12 to an unranked team.

Agreed...Duke is doing what was expected of them in a weakened ACC. UNC, otoh, is playing their asses off and learning about what is expected in the ACC. Roy is COY!

    I'll call bullshit on that

Dean often pulled great seasons out of nowhere. 33 years in a row finishing 3rd or better in the ACC ring a bell?

Yeah Dean always had talented players coming in and he never lost 7 at once like Roy did but he often took so-so teams further than expected.

Also if there had been a shot clock Dean wouldn't have been able to run his 4 corners he wouldn't have won as many games as he did.

and Dean Smith was passed over MANY times when they handed out the awards.....why? because he was supposed to win based on the fact that he had the best players. in seasons where he had great success he got zilch while some other guy with lesser talent won COY based soley on that and that alone.

sounds familiar doesnt it? we'll see what the "reasoning" is behind the decision makers this time around.

Best game I ever saw was when Carolina lost to Arkansas and as Dean was leaving the court some fan shook a Red and White pom pom in his face! That was priceless!

you learn to adapt to the rules laid out before you at the time. he tailored his game around the rules, just like coaches do today. who's to say he couldnt have adjusted if the rules were different then? that statement is terribly flawed and based on supposition.
