    Gray and Williams were both pre season all american candidates and nobody knew what Paulus would do as a freshman.

    My point is it is silly to penalize or credit a coach based on pre season expectations that are frequently flawed.

    It doesn't take much coaching when you have two possible 1st team All Americans, four seniors and one of the best recruiting classes in the country. Not to mention Shav left the team. And not to mention just about every other ACC team is in a rebuilding year. Not to say going undefeated isn't an accomplishment, even though they aren't.

    I made the same argument against Roy. He's not coaching Lang's and Wojo's either. But Roy has done a better coaching job based on talent. But I think Leitao did the best.

    Again, Virginia is about as talented as UNC this season, and they're barely above the record Pete Gillen had with them last season in a much stronger conference.

    First year coach, picked to finish dead last. It isn't even a contest between Roy and Leitao if they truly are equally talented as you say.

    Who keeps them motivated? Who keeps them from telling themselves they have more talent so they should win every game? Who puts the players in position to be 1st team All-americans? If players can do that on their own, what the fuck do you even need a coach for? Going 16-0, if that happens, means that K not only made every other coach in the conference his bitch but that he also kept the team focused when a lot of other teams would become the victims of self confidence.

    Agreed.
    Roy = 17-6 against a tough schedule
    Leitao = 14-10 against an easy schedule

    This is ACC COY not NCOY.

    Roy 8-4
    Leitao 7-6

    Roy multi year coach picked to finish 6th currently 3rd.
    Leitao first year coach picked to finish 12th current 5th.

    Roy pales in comparisson.

    UNC has pretty much beaten everyone they were suppose to beat and lost to everyone they were suppose to. Only win against the current top 25 is N.C. State and Virginia has at least two wins against the top 25 including UNC at Virginia. I'm betting UNC will beat them in Chapel Hill, but tell me who on Virginia is even worth anything at all besides Singeltary and Reynolds. Mamadi Diane will be a good player in the future cause he's only a freshman and 3rd best player, but the inside game at Virginia is down right awful. I don't think Coach K will win Coach of the Year just based on the expectations he had going in regardless of how much he deserves it. He has a great chance of winning it next year cause expectations won't be as high. And last year UNC had more talent than Duke does this year, albeit the conference was a lot tougher. I'm sure whoever wins has a good argument. Kinda comparing apples and oranges.

    With the win over N.C. State tonight Roy should definitely be Coach of The Year
