It's more pathetic that I have to be concerned about it.

My guess was that Meineke would take Clemson, but after your question I do wonder if they're eligible to be picked before Wake or BC. I suspect that they are, but I suppose we'll find out.

I know they would get taken by a lot of bowls. Until you're post, it never occurred to me the bowls might not be able to take Clemson. Nothing else I've read has discussed this.

I'm pretty sure the Pac 10 and Big 12 don't have enough eligible teams to fulfill all their bowl commitments, so everyone in the ACC that can go bowling will.

They can't. There are nine ACC teams that finished with winning records, so State isn't eligible for any of the nine ACC bowl tie-ins.

There are 64 open bowl spots. Between 57 and 59 will be taken by teams with winning records depending on whether or not Arizona beats ASU and Rutgers beats Louisville. There will be between 13 and 15 teams that finish 6-6, although I didn't check if all of them have enough qualifying wins.

Vanderbilt and Kentucky will take two spots due to SEC tie-ins. One Big East team will also take a spot, with that presumably being Notre Dame. Unless I'm missing something, 6-6 Colorado State will also take up one of the four MWC tie-ins since Utah will get a BCS spot. One Conference USA team will also take a spot due to bowl tie-ins. If Arizona State beats Arizona then that will take up another spot, and because of tie-ins Arizona will play a bowl game regardless.

I think that's all of them. So 57 spots will be taken by winning teams and 6 or 7 more would appear to be reserved for bowl tie-ins. Obviously that means that N.C. State would either have to be the one remaining 6-6 team chosen or if ASU beats Arizona next weekend, then that will take up the last spot and NCSU won't get to go bowling at all.

There are 34 bowl games this year, so there's 68 spots up for grabs.

Yeah, you're right, so there will be 4 or 5 open spots which means that N.C. State is likely to get chosen by some bowl.

One bowl questioned answered, a big one remains [IMG]

I just heard from ACC Associate Commissioner Michael Kelly, who said Clemson will earn one of the league's nine automatic tie-ins, and NC State will have to look elsewhere.
Clemson was deemed to have a "winning record" at 6-5 (one of those FCS wins did not count), but 6-5 is better than 6-6, so NC State is the team that will have to look elsewhere for a bowl.
So ... we'll know more after everyone else plays this weekend, and even possibly on Friday after we see how Louisville fares, and what Notre Dame is going to do. The key is how many other 6-6, or 7-5 teams are available.
The REAL question is who on Earth is going to play in the Eagle Bank Bowl? Wake is out. Maryland is out. And now NC State is out.

In terms of football, Notre Dame is not a member of the Big East, rather an independent.
