We dont make good money. We're the red-headed stepchildren of the State of North Carolina criminal justice system. North Carolina is in the bottom half of the nation in regards to salary. Compare us to California, New Jersey, Nevada, Maryland, etc.. that start out over $35k a year - our salaries suck. NC correctional officers (not guards, we did away with the guard/matron moniker in 1970) start out at $26,200 per year. While all of the teachers get the gold mine, the correctional officers (the backbone of state employment) get the shaft.

And yes, I've known officers that acted like they're God's freakin' gift to being a correctional officer, and it led them to an early exit. Some prisons like their officers to be down to earth, have a low profile, and do their jobs by policy and procedure rather than act like they're better than everyone and put themselves in the limelight - where it could get them hurt or killed. So yes, attitude is everything and can mean alot in a job. Acting like a dickhead in my job will get you alienated from your co-workers, ostracized from supervisors, and then to blackballing from administrators. God forbid an ass whipping or getting murdered by the inmates.

Actually, Im not. I could care less. Im more jealous of New Jersey & California correctional officers that start out about $45k a year and top out at around $73k/yr, rather than a guy groveling over money just to play a game and to do no real work, whatsoever.

and, if these screws are supposed to be maintaining a low profile, what's one of their finest doing bitching about salaries on a message board, using the "The Warden" as his fucking board moniker?

A-Rod talking with the Yankees. Looks like the league called Boras's bluff.

It's just a nickname that some of my co-workers and a few inmates gave to me when I first started with the DOC because I ran a very tight ship and was ultra-tough on the inmates. It just stuck with me. Instead of officers and other staff members calling me normally by my last name, instead, they ask for The Warden.

And LR, it does no good in starting a thread on NJ & CA officer salaries because no one, outside of correction officers, wouldnt know what I was talking about. And I was talking and commenting on A-Rod before the conversation got sidetracked.

All I was saying was that A-Rod will make more than what i'll make in a career + retirement in public service, which is completely ridiculous in the fact he does no real "work" by playing a game and thus, makes mega millions.

Some bluff, reports are that AROD gets 30 M + per year. If that's a bluff, what's a lock?

I never said that AROD did "real work". I play and get a lot of my college paid for for doing so. Is that wrong? But, Alex Rodriguez deserves every penny he makes because the american public craves superstars like him. He is a very rare talent.

Soon to be resigned by Yanks after face to face deal struck up with Boras in Florida as an advisor. Steinbrenner kids insisted he not be there. He gets around 275 million for 10 more years. The $$ wasn't the issue (per ESPN radio) it was how the team and player could benefit from and cash in on ARod when he break the homerun record

Didn't Boras whore $350 million around to the league? He's not going to get it. Of course, what he's gonna get isn't that bad either.

I think Boras found out pretty quick that no one other than the Yankees was all that interested in having Rodriquez take up 25-30% of their team payroll. So, a little ass kissing was in order to make nice with the Yankees.
