now, i certainly agree with you on your opinion of high school and college athletics. As a college baseball player that really has no chance to play for money, I came back for a 5th year, using a medical redshirt. I am playing for the love of the game, as well as my teammates. I would much rather watch college football than Pro football. The only NFL game that I watch is the panthers game, but I watch football alllllll day on saturday. The college world series is to me, the most thrilling thing in sports......except for when the cubs win the world series!

Amen brother....I too am glued to the TV on a saturday and love it when college basketball is on the air. And with the success of UNC in the College World Series, I now watch it with regularity. And if we could only get a playoff system in the Division I-A ranks..:)

That's a valid point. But this is the exception rather than the norm and it is mostly because of the record. The fact remains that ARod will help put butts in seats only if he helps a team win more games...at least until he approaches the bonds record.

At the end of the day though, he is worth what a team is willing to pay him. I agree with Collin in that i think he gets too much criticism. He does play the game hard. He puts up monster numbers every year. And whether you want to believe it or not, he plays the game to win.

Really? Because I've met people in your line of work and they tend to be a lot bigger dickheads than A-Rod seems to be. Moreover, your comments about him continue to make no sense. Rodriguez is known as a guy who always works hard, and who helps out his teammates. You talk about him like he's a loafer who just shows up to cash his checks.

Dickheads? Takes one to know one, don't you think?

Obviously, by meeting correctional officers, it means you've never donned a uniform and stood a post. So, its kinda easy of taking cheap shots at us from the peanut gallery. We deal with a great amount of stress in what we do, so if we come across as a little arrogant, we're most likely venting from a mighty stressful job and a hard day's work.

And when it comes to A-Rod....Im sure he has worked hard to get to where he's at. But, when you start making the mega millions and center the attention to you instead of the game, then you tend to lose respect. When you pull the stunt that he did, being ostracized by fans and colleagues will happen. Blackballing? Only if A-Rod and Scott Boras keep it up by jacking his rates up.

Boras is to blame for the interruption in the world series. I honestly don't think that A-Rod called Boras and said "realease the story now!". Boras has admitted that he screwed up, and I don't think that anyone should blame A-Rod for trying to interrupt the world series. Oh, by the way.....all of us are guilty of making arod bigger than the game. We are doing it right now by talking about him, instead of other big time free agents this year, or the sox championship, or the cubs owner situation, or any other big time stroy in baseball for that matter. Warden, you are treating arod like he is bigger than the game. I don't think that he thinks he is.

Genius, if you apply that logic then it makes you one too. Try to stick with something less childish.
No, I haven't. Thankfully I've had much better career options than being a guard in a prison. I know you guys make good money and I certainly understand that it's extraordinarily stressful, but stop being a retard and admit that you were being silly when you suggested that someone with A-Rod's attitude would be blackballed. I'm sure you know plenty of co-workers who are bigger dickheads.
To my knowledge, A-Rod has always praised his teammates and never bitched when he didn't win an award, unlike David Ortiz and Albert Pujols. You are jealous of Rodriguez, it's that simple.

Before Alex Rodriguez opted out of his contract with the Yankees earlier this week, the team was told that it would not be able to meet with the third baseman unless it presented an offer of at least $350 million, sources say.
The Yankees had hoped to meet with Rodriguez this week, and would have presented him with an extension offer close to five years and $150 million, to begin at the conclusion of his 2008-2010 contract, through which he would have earned $81 million. Through the Yankees' proposal, then, Rodriguez would have made about $230 million over eight years, and during the last five years of the contract, sources say, he would have earned the highest annual salary in Major League Baseball history.

But team executives were told, sources say, that in order to arrange a meeting with Rodriguez, they would have to be prepared to make an extension offer that would take the third baseman's deal up to a total value of $350 million. That means that the offer the Yankees intended to propose would have been more than $100 million short.

Rodriguez's agent, Scott Boras, sent the documentation of Rodriguez's intention to opt out of the contract to Yankees general manager Brian Cashman during Game 4 of the World Series, Cashman has said, and the GM did not speak with Boras until after news of the decision was published on SI.com.

The timing of how this played out, and the fact that Rodriguez did not meet with the Yankees to hear their offer before making his decision, has led some baseball officials to surmise that a deal with another team may already be in the works. In an interview with ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick on Thursday, Boras said, "We have had no economic discussions regarding Alex Rodriguez with any major-league team."

The Mets, Dodgers, Angels, Giants and Marlins are among the teams which have not publicly ruled out pursuing Rodriguez. Sources say it is highly unlikely that the Dodgers will seriously entertain the possibility.

The Yankees have reportedly said that they will not negotiate with AROD if Boras is in the room. This is in direct violation of the player agreement. My guess is they just shot off at the mouth before they thought about what they were saying and that they will certainly reconsider.
