I was watching ESPN First Take and A-rod and his agent are trying to get a 12 year 360 million dollar deal.

Anybody feel that he is worth it or that he is not worth wasting your money on?

AROD has put himself in a position where he has only a handfull of teams that can afford him. If he goes, it's to the Angels, Dodgers, forget the Cubs because they are the Cubs. The Giants have a lot of money to spend but I don't think he would want to play there. San Diego needs a bat bad but they would not be willing to pony up those kind of bucks. I wonder if he could end up staying with the Yankees/

You are probably going to have to define "worth it." Could he conceivably worth that much money to the bottom line of a franchise in revenue from tickets and stadium ad revenue? Yes, maybe. But the real key would be ad revenue from a network owned by the team (I think that only the Red Sox and Yankees currently have their own networ and the Mets are going to). More than likely, yes. Don't forget, that if he stays healthy the latter portion of his contract will entail him going after the HR record and possibly the hits record as well.

Would all of that translate into regular or post season success? That's gonna depend on who you put around him.

I don't think he'd be worth that to anybody but the Yankees. The other teams that could afford him would need him to basically lead them to a World Series title. He can't do that. The Yankees could pay for him, then theoretically be able to go out and pay for someone else to lead them to a title.

Did you see that line in a Gammons' article the other day? They sold 4 box seats in the new stadium for 2500 each/ per game. Unreal.

But while the list of teams that could pay him is small, I don't think that it is just teh Yanks.

Any team besides the Red Sox or Yankees would be sacrificing money they could spend on pitching on A-Rod, and they would get a great hitting player with an inconsistent pitching staff. That will not get it done. You build your team around pitching and then get the bats. Good pitching trumps all. I hate Scott Boras. A-Rod had a great year no doubt, but 12 years from now he'll be 44 years old. The second half of that contract he'll be starting to deteriorate or will be deteriorating. Anyone who takes on that much money for a player who will be playing after his prime for most of the contract is insane.

I agree but if he leaves New York somebody is gonna pay him a fortune. I think that you can't have enough money to pay Arod and have a pitching staff capable of winning the World Series.

I would say that the Cubs could afford A-Rod and a good pitching staff. Do I think that they should sign A-Rod? no, Ramirez is a very good player at a much lower cost. Not to mention, he has a few years left on his contract, which has a no trade clause in it.

Boras needs to shut up, because he's not doing A-Rod any favors by feeding this impression in the media. Rodriguez won't get $360 million, but he should be able to narrowly top his previous record-breaking contract. I also disagree on the comment about paying him taking away money from pitching, as there is no salary cap in baseball and you shouldn't blow money on pitching unless you're getting someone elite (not Barry Zito). I still think that Anaheim makes the most sense, but I guess we'll see.

I would say the Cubs probably have the best chance followed by the Angels. I think they should keep Ramirez at 3rd and move A-rod to SS. The Angels have 8.5 million tied up in Orlando Cabrera, and he has played pretty good for them but if they have the money for A-Rod then OC will be out.

The sleeper team is Detroit. They have the money for him but I don't know if he would want to go to Detroit. His chance of winning a ring is with Cubs, Angels, or Yankees(depending on what they do with him and Torre).
