When I used the word "ignorant", I meant it only as the definition intended, with no negative connotation whatsoever, meaning atheists simply don't know what I do -- they don't know God. Being ignorant isn't a derrogatory thing. I'm ignorant about a LOT of things.

HB, I understand the context of your comment and I do apologize if you felt I singled you out.

Some on this board may be surprised at how many humanists/athiests are well versed in Christianity and what it has to offer.

I hope this isn't offensive to anyone, but I'm sure it will be. I can only speak for myself, but I see religion as another form of drug. A way to cope with the world without having to deal with realities. The poor and oppressed see the Chariot swinging down to lift them to freedom and standing in heaven. Others see it as a way to cope with tragedy and feel comfort that reality fails to offer them. Yet others use it to ease the fear that the modern world instills in them.

I freely admit that I am sometimes jealous of the peace that the truly religious have. To give up reason and self to find that peace in a new form of drug isn't something I'm willing or able to do.

indeed. at times in my life, i've thought of religion as a crutch for weak of mind. i don't feel that way these days, but when people lump non-believers into the "just don't get it" category, it gets difficult to suppress those feelings.

when i want mindless bliss, i call my friend mary jane and we hang out for a few hours... she doesn't want to marry me. she doesn't want my money (well, not much anwyay).

Nut, in some ways I think it is a crutch, not necessarily for the weak of mind. Many of the brightest people I know are religious in some sense some are even "fundies" to some degree except that seem to focus on the teachings and words of Christ as a basis for their literal view of the Bible.

I think everyone has an innate need to believe in something and we all search for comfort and knowledge and understanding. I'm glad that some can find it through their religion.

I'm glad to know that MJ has found a good home. Tell her I miss her. We had a good thing going all those years ago, but my feelings for her changed. It wasn't her fault. Sometimes those things just happen.

I'm not sure er ummm.... you probably haven't noticed that my thought process is pretty scattered- that being the reason.
Either that or I'm just not a linear thinker.
