What are your feelings abuot atheists. How do yuo perceive them? Do you feel that they are lost..that they need to be taught the way of god and then they will see the light, so to speak. Do you think they are less intelligent ? Or do atheists need to be educated in the ways of the Bible?

I'm just curious how , in general, atheists are perceived.

I'm comfortable enough with my own beliefs not to want to challenge anyone else with their convictions. Just because athiests may not believe in a God - they still believe in something. Needless to say - no, I don't believe that athiests are less intelligent. That kind of arrogant attitude gives many religions a bad name - and it's not something I've ever considered true :).

I think they would have to believe the Bible before they would care to be educated about it. But for the most part when I've had contact with Atheists unless they ask what I believe, I would stay off the subject of my belief. They are definetly not stupid.
What scares me way more are those KKK type people who say they are believers and spread hate, and use God's name to do it.

Do they really? What do they believe in?

I don't think athiests are less intelligent, but I feel sorry for them. Not to believe in a higher power is mind boggling. I just don't understand how they think this world came to be? Evolution, big bang, just doesn't make a lot of sense to me and to think that this life is all there is? There has to be something else.

Ice, I can only speak for myself, but to me there is something else. The reality in which I live and my personal responsibility to the community as a whole.

Work to make the world a better place for everyone, not just those who agree with my views. Protect the interests of my children and future generations in regards to justice, peace and freedom.

To some, life is all there is and that is enough. The hope of some 'heavenly reward' isn't our motivation. Doing what we believe is best is enough.

Super_nut and BigVito are probably two of the smartest people I have ever interacted with. So less intelligent? No.

I have no respect for the atheists who like to argue without ever having picked up a Bible. Miss Tery seems that way to me. I have studied other religions in depth. I personally feel that you can't make an educated (not to be confused with less intelligent) decision without having all the cards on the table.

I do think it is my duty to help others get those cards before them.

Sly, thanks for the compliment. The feeling is mutal.

I've used the term "true believer" many times on here. To me, it implies a blind devotion to dogma of any sort, be it political, social or religious. Those who don't "believe" in a Christian sense can also fall prey to being a "true believer."

Blind belief in anything, imo, leads to situations like we have all over the world with racial and social strife, terroism, etc. I don't think there is any religious or political viewpoint that isn't able to be taken to the exteme whether it is Christianity, Islam or Humanism/Atheism.

I have a much easier time respecting the beliefs and opinions of others if they show some thought, some introspection, behind those beliefs. For the most part, this forum shows that people think about their beliefs. Some are of the "that's the way it is" mentality, but I think we all take that with a grain of salt.

wow. thanks, sly. that's quite a compliment, and the feeling is mutual.

to me, strong belief in anything is a detriment to reasoned thought.

i tend to consider myself agnostic with atheistic tendencies. when it gets right down to it, i have no idea if there's a higher power, but i tend to think not. too many atheists make it their goal to tell people they're wrong for believing in something they can't prove. but then, those atheists have the same problem -- strong belief about something they can't possibly know. afterall, it's atheism.

now, i like to argue so i'll play the atheist if others play the theists. no problem. occasionally, i'll play the agnostic to others atheists. that's about as close to arguing pro creator as i've gotten.
