    BACK IN THE ROOM....

after a long night at the Dome....Illinois is sick. Wonderful guards, and Roger Powell looks like he can cause some problems for the heels....Illinois was able to survive a sleepy first half and turn it up in the 2nd half to cruise. Louisville hurt themselves by not finishing a lot of layups in thye first half, and Illinolis just smoked them in the 2nd.

As for UNC....lethargic first half--no motion, enthusiasm, or real interior presence. UNC fans havent said this much, but they were tonight--thank God for Jawad Williams. Williams was the only guy going tonight, and without him, UNC would be heading home. Insetad, great halftiome adjustemnts and a stern talking to from Roy was enough to get them focused to win it running away. The heels CAN NOT play like that on monday and think they will beat Illinois. The Illini are THAT good.

Hope you got to see the late night edition of Sports Night..had some phone issues early, but I think we rocked otherwise. Normal show on Sunday, and then another post game shopw on Monday after the final.

    See ya then!

WOW! That one word sums up an incredible experienc ein STL...the atmosphere, the crowds, the games...simply WOW.

The Heels race out to the big lead at the break, ILL climbs back in, UNC reasserts itself...and then Felton's 3 to give UNC the 68-65 lead, the steal off the crossing pass, the missed Luther Head 3...Felton's calm at the line...unreal. UNC deserved to win this game--they outplayed (although not by much) ILL, they game planned better, May is a force, and Roy gets his title. Memories for a lifetime--yes I do consider myself fortunate and very lucjy to have been here.

My lasting memory of this trip, however is after the game, after the work was done (our wall to wall coverage post game)...I go back into the dome, grab 2 copies of the final game box (the complete stat book with scoring, shot charts, play by play etc...). I head to the UNC locker room, and see Coach Williams heading back after all of his interviews. He walks into the room, to get ready to leave. As he comes out, I ask him if he will autograph my game book for me. He very politely agrees, and signs it (personalized as I asked so it was assured I won't sell it on ebay), I shake his hand, congratulate him, and he and the national champs are on their way to the hotel.

Now, I have the signed game book for Roy's first National Championship, to go along with the signed game book from Dean Smith's record breaking career wins victory when UNC topped Colorado in the NCAA Tourney a few years back. Both awesome collectibles, and something that I will treasure forever.

Off to Chicago tomorrow for a wake and funeral, then return to Charlotte at the end of the week.

Congrats to the Heels for a well earned title, and congrats to Illinois on a wonderful season.

Ultimately, the better TEAM won the title, as it should be.

    Peace!
