A Dook fan's definition of success

I've started to notice over the years that almost all dook fans define their success in relation to what UNC does. When dook loses later this week, all of those bandwagon fans will say, and i quote, "at least we made it further than carolina". well, geez, you've been #1 all year, you won the ACC tourney, you have more talent than the heels...but yet, you'll still act like making it further than carolina is all you care about.

since K won his 3rd title, all you hear from dook fans is that he has more than Dean. of course, they leave out the fact that more than 1 ACC team gets invited to the tourney these days...which wasn't the case for Dean for the first half of his career. dook fans aren't proud that K has 3, they are just proud that he has 1 more than dean. if dean had 1 and K had 2, they would be just as happy. if K is so great, why not compare him to Wooden? oh, that's right, b/c you lose that argument every time....and we all know dook fan's will never let that happen...they'll just change the subject. i also notice you don't really bother comparing yourselves to UCONN very often....simply because they OWN you.

heels fans, on the other hand, compare their team against the nation's best, which yes, does include dook. but UNC fans have kentucky on their radar for most wins....they compare themselves with UCLA, UK, and IU for most championships....dean chased down Rupp for most wins by a coach.....etc.

many of you won't admit it, but you see my point. while carolina fans do want to finish better than dook, it's not the sole purpose of our lives...as it is for dook fans. so when they lose within the week....be sure to come to this board and say you didn't really expect them to win it anyway....and please be sure to throw in "at least we made it further than the heels"!

 

It seems as though you are arguing against yourself,and isn't your sig a copy of Sly's Carolina Blue thing? Don't be such a hater, it takes away from any good points you may make.

 

Both programs are great and have been for a long time. Carolina has gone through some changes the last several years and Duke has had the upper hand. However, with Roy on board things are are finally starting to settle down at UNC. I look for there to be some great games between the two over the next 4 or 5 years.

As long as Duke dosen't win it all (and what kind of UNC fan would I be if I wanted them to), it dosen't really matter that they went farther. After all they were supposed to. They have two All-Americans and have been ranked #1 most of the year. This was a rebuilding year for Carolina and they exceeded expectations as far as I'm concerned.

 

UNC fans do the same thing. IU has really fizzled out and UCLA is just starting to come back with Howland and the last time Kentucky went to the Final Four, UNC won the ACC tournament. Those schools although historically the best have not been the best in the past ten years or so. If Coach K never won a title ever again, and Roy Williams won 3 more all UNC fans would talk about is how Roy Williams has more titles. Not that that's a good thing or a bad thing, but saying UNC doesn't compare themselves in terms of Duke (especially since Dean retired) is a lie. It's just a sign of mutual respect that both programs have. Being able to compare the team you like to Duke or UNC is just a compliment to your team no matter how much they hate each other.

 

read it again... i didn't say unc fans don't compare themselves to dook...i just said it's not exclusively dook.

 

I personally don't know any Dook fans that would be happy just making it further than UNC this year.

 

After giving it a great deal of thought, I have come to the conclusion that you are the biggest idiot and the most annoying poster on this board. Congratulations and have a nice day.

i would think that anything less than the national championship would be considered almost disappointing, (if not failure) by duke fans in general. lets face it, carolina is fresh off a national title last season and you nkow that duke has got to be itching to get back up there too. thats the circle we run in on tobacco road, national titles and all. this is gonna be good, a strong field, lots of pressure. cant wait.

 

unc didn't win the acc tourney last year. just sayin.
