Brown is an athlete that plays football. David is a football player thats a great athlete. Big difference in instincts. Doesn't matter how fast you are if you take false steps, poor angles. And that's the knock on Brown.

Rob Rang has been around for 10+ Years (nfldraftscout.com) and currently writes for CBS Sportsline.

And criticize McShay all you want but he was right about the Pickle. He was the only major media analyst that had Clausen rated lower than first round.

Point is, there is a divided opinion on which is better. And I wouldn't be pissed if we took Brown over David, I just prefer guys with good instincts over guys that are raw athletes.

Did you watch Carolina play at all this past season? I'm guessing you didn't because anyone who did would presumably know that Brown was its most consistent playmaker on defense. He was routinely around the ball, breaking up passes or making key tackles. In fact, just look at the numbers.

Lavonte David had 58 solo tackles, 5.5 sacks, 0 forced fumbles, and 2 interceptions.

Zach Brown had 62 solo tackles, 5.5 sacks, 0 forced fumbles, and 3 interceptions.

All this talk about instincts is really just draft analysts not knowing enough to recognize the difference in schemes between Nebraska and Carolina. Nebraska plays "downhill" and allows Davis to be aggressive in coming forward to attack the line of scrimmage. Brown's responsibilities were more like what you see in the NFL with read & reaction, then flowing to the ball. They were equally productive in college, but Brown is physically far better suited for the NFL. Why anyone would rank David over Brown is beyond me, because they obviously shouldn't.

Never heard of him, but that explains why. NFLDraftScout is a complete joke that I never use, and CBS hires some of the worst columnists in every sport. Keep in mind that I've been writing professionally about the NFL Draft for 10+ years too.

He also had Jake Locker as the best player in last season's draft, and says that Tannehill not only will be but should be picked in the top five of this draft. There was a point in time where McShay wasn't bad, but I think that's back when he used to collaborate more with Scouts Inc. Now he has a big head and uses his own personal opinions, which aren't worth shit.

Not among people who know what they're talking about. I'm not saying that Lavonte David is a bad prospect, but Zach Brown is clearly better. It's not even certain that David will play linebacker at the next level, since a lot of teams are thinking of converting him to strong safety given his lack of size and strength.

The point you made about scheme is a good answer...that puts your view in perspective for me.

Yeah, I watched some Carolina but not much. Did watch 3 or 4 Nebraska games and was definatley impressed with David, hence my bias.

If you're giving me a pick between them for a college team, then I would take Lavonte David but just barely. David isn't going to get any bigger or faster, though, and his lack of size makes the NFL transition a real question mark. His best case scenario is Thomas Davis, and as much as some Panthers fans like to think TD was an elite defender before his injuries, he really wasn't.

    HYPE !!

    Is a beautiful thing

Players go up and down on all the mock drafts based on Hype and college numbers, pro days.

    The N F L is a completly differnt beast

The trick in a draft is to find the diamonds

32 players are drafted in the 1st round ,based on stats and hype

But go back and you will find that around a third or less of those players ever made a real difference .

The draft is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you get !

Its funny how people cant think for themselves. They need a mock draft to tell them who their team needs. Until Cam got here Ill bet most of these draft gurus couldnt tell you who was on our team and most still couldnt name 5 people on our team now. D line aint happening. Think for yourself, look at the prospects, look at our roster and our cap situation. 2+2 people. We cant afford a reach or a project. We need starters. Ask yourself, do any of these projected d linemen look like theyd be a starter next year? Dont lie to yourselves.

I dont like drafting by ranking, b/c it never turns out that way. That said, given the options, here's what I'd do.

    9 - Stephon Gilmore CB
    40 - Brandon Thompson DT
    104 - Tommy Streeter WR
    137 - Travis Lewis LB
    168 - Brian Anger P

Gilmore seems like a fine player, but doesn't it make you nervous when a player wasn't considered a high first round pick and suddenly becomes one? Magnus even predicted this back in January: http://www.thisboardrocks.com/forum/showthread.php?p=2691343#post2691343
