not to go down an old, funny road, but anyone think the draft should go an extra round or two? Back in the day they had way too many rounds, but the interesting thing is that you gave more young guys chances to make a squad. An 8 or 9 round draft would follow the more modern NFL - now that Free Agency has run its course somewhat, leveling out to where it should be, more late round guys are making the squads, and there's still a good amount of parity between the 5th and 7th rounds as far as who makes a squad. It's hit or miss.

Also there's too much free agency in post-draft undrafted players. There's really no advantage to getting picked in the 7th if you're talented but overlooked, assuming you can make a club anyway. If you make the team and eventually start, you're a cinderella story. If you're one of the best guys out there after the draft, you get paid as well as a 6th rounder in some cases - a lot of teams put three year contracts out there for the elite undrafteds.

I don't imagine it really matters that much but it seems like there's enough talent every year to reward another 32+ players for a short amount of time.

I've thought the same thing the past couple of years. Seems like after the 5th round, some guys are actually hoping they DON'T get drafted because they'll make more money as an undrafted FA.

I also agree there's really not much dropoff between the 7th rounders and a lot of the UFA's. In fact, there are UFA's starting this year!

To be honest, I don't know if another round or two is a good thing overall. I wouldn't be against it, though.

    Let'em have 10 rounds.

  4. I'd like 10 rounds too.

My "old" Steelers used to do well in rounds 8 and higher.

    Mike Wagner. L.C. Greenwood.

But, looking back at the old drafts killed me...especially some of years like Aaron Jones, Darryl Sims, John Rienstra, Greg Hawthorne, Walter Abercrombie...ugh...
