03/23/2010 - PRO DAY RESULTS: Last year it was West Virginia QB Pat White who was all the rage leading up to the draft due to his versatile skills and ability to run the Wildcat formation. This year, it's Appalachian State QB Armanti Edwards who brings similar talents to the table. Edwards, who led the Mountaineers to a national title in his freshman year, truly burst onto the national scene as a sophomore in 2007 when he led Appalachian State to a historic upset of host Michigan. He has continued to develop since then, and now finds himself a potential mid-round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. He's going to be one of those guys that will give defensive coordinators gray hairs trying to defend him, and he showed why with an exceptional workout at Appalachian State's pro day on March 16. Ravens receivers coach Jim Hostler and Eagles QB coach James Urban were on hand to watch Edwards and five other players work out indoors on FieldTurf. Edwards (5-foot-11, 182 pounds) ran the 40-yard dash in 4.44 and 4.41 seconds, had a 34 1/2-inch vertical jump, a 10-foot, 3-inch broad jump, a 4.19-second short shuttle, a 6.74-second three-cone drill and did 13 bench press repetitions at 225 pounds. He also did position drills as both a quarterback and receiver. - Gil Brandt, NFL.com

You forgot San Diego who routinely moves up and trades future picks.

looking back since 2004, if my math is right: indy did not have a 1st rd pick in 04 or 08; ne didn't have a 2nd rd pick in 05, 07 or 08 nor did they have a 1st in 09 (they had 2 1sts in 08 but forfeited one for spygate); philly didn't have a second in 04 nor a first in 07 or 08

if next year's draft is gonna be talent short, might make sense to trade a pick this year; plus, i think i've read that we are gonna have a ton of comp picks next year that will likely help us move back into the second. they've been drafting pretty well over the past few years and i get the impression that hurney is cold, calculating poker player that isn't easily bluffed into giving up on what he things is a winning hand

if they got a franchise type qb at mid 2nd dollars then you've got to hand it to him ... luck or not.

the moves they made in the past couple years still look good so there's hope that this trade will look good in hindsite too.

I am not sure about this one. Nothing against Edwards but they should not have moved up to get him. He would have probably been there at #112.

Don't forget Randy Moss came out of 1-AA (now FCS) from Marshall before they switched, and he's done OK in the NFL. He's not a bad pick. The only thing I don't understand is the trade up. I don't think anybody else had him on the radar. The ESPN guys didn't even mention him, but they sure pimped the running back from the same conference as him from the Citadel the pick before him, at least Gruden did.

Probably wasn't good enough. He was there at 89 and we wanted him bad enough.

moss went to notre dame, then florida state on double-secret probation before being kicked out over the summer after an incredible spring. 1-AA was the only way he was going to play that fall.

    No shit??

    Well, that's something I didn't know.

But hopefully Edwards will be productive somehow, I'm biased since I went to ASU, but I don't think it was a wasted pick. I do think it was a stupid move to trade up for him. He would have been there without giving up a 2nd in 2011.
