Damn, the haters. Every year it's the same crap. No matter who we draft 90% of the fan base is calling for the sky to fall.

What?! Kalil, but we don't need a center. Stewart, but we got Williams. Dan Conner, do we need a linebacker. etc. etc. etc.

Some picks boom, some picks bust but overall I can't see how you can think the Panthers don't know how to build a team through the draft.

They have a world's more knowledge about these players than fans. I swear, I wish I had a dollar for every person that become a draft expert from reading more than one mock draft.

Sorry to vent but the bottom line is we have no idea if these guys are going to be great picks or not.

now that I'm starting to see straight again . .. any idea (Magnus & others) what the panthers brain trust is thinking to justify a 2nd for Edwards and how he will be utilized to earn that? Return man? Slot? Wildcat QB? Does anyone see him worth a 2nd on the NFL level at ANYTHING because I just don't see it. Someone please enlighten me

I think he does returns and we create a special package for him on offense. Eventually we (I assume) want to groom him into our next big-play receiver. That's more of an unknown though.

It's not like the Panthers have never picked a guy to play a position he didn't play in college.

I think they saw a really athletic guy with a lot of potential to be a really good WR. Possible kick returner right off the bat. Very deep draft coupled with next year being a down draft because everybody who could let school early because of the possible lockout.

Who knows, maybe the Panthers had a second round grade on the guy.

You don't see the teams that are in the hunt year in and year out (NE, PHI, INDY, etc) trade future picks, they stockpile them like NE for 2011 ( 2 1sts and 2 2nds).

anywhere I lay my head I'm gonna call my home
well, to be fair I'd have gone Tate (who would've covered both the WR need, the return need, and the speed need) and I was good with Clausen (when we could've easily just signed McCown and tried to win harder now). I was good with LaFell when I would've gone with Gilyard or Price.

Hell I was good with Brown even though I was thinking DT - and then DT became the issue. But rush became a strength so it worked out anyway. I figured we'd go in various other directions in 2008 when we loaded up on a big back (which I didn't want) and a huge RT (which I figured wasn't in our plans).

I mean, I'm a pretty accomodating guy when I can see what we're doing. Lafell and Clausen were good value picks and team together, like Stewart/Otah, like Brown/Martin, as combo picks to help revitalize a part of this team. Even though neither LaFell nor Clausen were anything near what I'd have done, I can see what they were doing and why.

But if it created the need for Edwards, or that was part of the plan, then there are major flaws. I mean, I know people like ASU, and Edwards is a better football player than QB. he's athletic and able. I'm sure he'll give us all he has and be solid. But, even if he turns out to be a good slot WR with return skills, there were experienced players who already do those things.
That you probably wouldn't have to give up a future 2 to get.
