    Bo Jackson as well...

Hammett is a damn good guitarist. Hetfield is okay. Reb could smoke either. He's played for Whitesnake, Dokken, and Winger. Whitesnakes had John Sykes (AMAZING) and Vai...

Dokken had George Lynch. If he could step in and do their stuff...he can do Metallica.

It's all fine and dandy that these studio musicians were so talanted. The bottom line is that their music sucked. I don't care if they could play jazz fusion metal classical during practice , Winger fucking sucked.

It comes down to listening to the band and determining if what they play is original or unique or provokes a response and not what Sebastian Bach supposedly thinks about guitar solos.

I'm saying the guys were mega talented. The stuff they wrote was intended to sound like the trend.

By the way...Kip Winger solo is GOOD stuff. Both acoustic and plugged in. VERY different.

Think I'll go listen to a little Iced Earth now...not that Iced Earth has ANYTHING to do with Winger...

I think glam pre-dates hair metal. Hair metal certainly had a lot of influence from glam but I do not think it is the same thing.

What sucks and what does not is a very subjective thing. I wonder though if you have ever listened to Winger with out the preconcieved notion that they are light weight fluff. The last album "Pull" is more serious than their earlier more popular albums. One track in paticular "Whose the One" is very good.

I had forgotten Beach played for Coverdale. I always associate Steve Vai with Whitesnake for some reason even though he only played on the "Slip of the Tongue" album in '89. Must be the heartshaped two necked guitar I remember.

Two other great ones were Joe Satriani and Yngwie Malmsteen. On the classical side, Andrés Segovia always seemed otherworldly to me.

What is wild is that Kip Winger can really play a guitar well on his own. Reb had to be awesome to push Kip off the lead. Kip's solos and acoustical stuff is pretty awesome even without Reb.

I think Reb has a solo album out there too.

I can't believe out of all the "80's metal" that there are two pages of discussion on Winger. I think "metal" isn't really a good term to use, when I hear metal I'm thinking of really hard bands such as Pantera, Ministry, Ozzy, those type of guys. Most of the 80's stuff I'd classify has hair bands but that doesn't mean that weren't talented. I think Dokken, Telsa, Motley Crue although they may be considered "hair bands" they are talented and flat out rock.

Hair metal is a sub group to regular metal.
