Winger gets a bad rap because Kip was such a pretty boy. They actually were good musicians and were better than a lot of the other hair bands.

I think the term metal covers a lot of ground. I think hair metal is pretty close to glam but not quite the same. Guys like Bowie are what I consider glam but not hair metal. Hair metal is basically a branch on the same tree that other metal is on. Van Halen and Kiss are probably the fathers of hair metal.

I like hard stuff like some Mettalica and Ozzy even a couple of Motorhead songs but some of the newer stuff with no melody at all is just noise to me. I especially do not care for the groups whose lead singer does not sing but just grunts like a cave man. Just because you play it loud and fast does not mean it is worth listening to.

Kip Winger...also played bass for Alice Cooper.

TALENT wise...those guys were on par with Dream Theater, Queensryche, etc...no shit. Group of KILLER studio musicians put together to form a band.

So are some famous football players, what is the big deal about that. I think being in all those teeny bopper magazines next to Kirk Cameron did more to hurt his image than anything. I heard an interview with him once talking about how they got so much of the backlash against hair metal and about the Mettalic video where they throw darts at his poster. He said they were much better musicians than Mettalica and that they could play any song Mettalica ever had but that Mettalica could not play their stuff. The thing about that is that he was right. He also said he understood why people resented his prettty boy image back then and knew it was his fault because he was selling that back then. I have a live CD of him playing in Brazil. It is sort of a bootleg item. He is playing an accoustic guitar and he does a lot of Winger stuff along with some of his lesser known solo stuff. He really kicks ass on it.

A guy in my fraternity thought the same thing and played it at 7:00 every morning, that is until two other guys and myself switched around albums and album covers on all 300 of his records and he had to sort them out himself.

I can appreciate Motorhead but I can not listen to more than one or two of their songs before I get tired of them.

OK, I curious, who are these football players? Gotta be wide receivers or kickers.

I know you don't know the answer to this but how the hell would he know Kirk Hammett and James Hetfield couldn't play his licks? Sounds like jealousy to me.
