The Maryland Terrapins completely humiliated the hapless Holes in Kenan Stadium Saturday, 59-7. The Terps scored on 8 straight possessions before easing up in the 4th quarter. The final score was closer than it should have been. UNC rewrote much of their record book.

    * North Carolina has been outscored 127-13 in their last 10 quarters
    * 52 point margin was the worst since 1923, when Yale beat them 53-0
    * UMd's 388 yards rushing was the most by an opponent since 1980
    * 59 points is the most ever given up in Kenan Stadium
    * First game ever that the CHEERLEADERS left before the game was over.

That's right. Not only did most of the 44,000 leave before it was over, so did the cheerleaders with about four minutes to play!!!!

    Ramses and the UNC
    cheerleaders have seen
    enough with 3:55
    remaining in the game.

The cheerleaders were going to the Dean Dome to cheer the Blue/White game. Bad scheduling, yeah.

Don't know about the cheerleaders, but as for the team -

It's called "quitting" and it happens to some teams this time of year. See also Michigan State, Kansas, Utah, Arizona....

I also suspected that Clemson had quit and would tank it after the NC St game, but they somehow managed to get up off the floor while trailing by 2 TD's to Duke. Go figure.

The Clemson players were told by Coach Bowden they'd have to spend Saturday night in Durham with the Duke cheerleaders if they lost. :D

:lol2: Y'all are hell on the Duke cheerleaders. But I've seen the pics Sly posted of them so I'm sure that would be enough motivation for me to come back from 2 TD's...

Don't get started on this argument about the pros/cons of a team. The decision was made by someone back in the mid-60s and you know as well as I do that the economics of college football are negative $$$.

However, if you want to tell me that those guys in Chapel Hill resembled a football team Saturday, that's an entirely different topic.

As long as Dick Baddour is the athletic director at UNC, the only program to excel will be the non-revenue producing ones.

Bear, there are less than 10 D-I football schools in the country that turn a profit in their athletic department. Since the state of NC doesn't fund athletics (as they do in Florida, for example) the money comes entirely from student fees and ticket revenues.
