i dunno. i find these greenscreen movies a bit odd looking. they feel like plays -- probably because everything is taking place on a stage.

aparently the guy that directed this doing pre-production on the watchmen right now.

i've been dying for somebody to really tackle that project, but i suspect the only way to really pull it off would be an hbo style mini-series. there's just too much for one movie. and the series was 12 episodes to start with, so why not just stick with that pacing? 12 one-hour episodes would be perfect.

and the subject matter is perfect for today's political climate.

It took me a little while to get used to the whole look of the greenscreen filming, but overall I really enjoyed the movie. Sure it's gory, but you are watching a movie about an ancient battle. They fought with spears, swords, and arrows, so I expected blood and gore was a big part of it.

Wow. It's been so long since I read this that I'd forgotten about it.

That will be extremely tough to pull off, but if he can, it'll be the best movie of the genre amd one of the better ones in a long time.

And you're right about the themes. I just don't know if it will translate if they keep the cold war era in tact.

yeah, the way they need to do it is to modify it to fit the time and media. i think people will be upset if anything from the story changes, but it won't work as a movie in 2008 using the exact same sensibilities as a comic book from 1985(?).

Sparta lost, but they claim victory anyway. Parallels with Iraq war are uncanny. Pure Putrid Propaganda.
