10,000 in the official boxscore, looks like they padded the total a little.

The Washington Post had this nugget in it about the game....

    NATIONALS NOTEBOOK
Ump Tells Lout To Not Shout, So He's Out

    By Amy Shipley

MIAMI, Sept. 12 -- There were so few fans at Dolphin Stadium for Wednesday's game, a season ticket holder got thrown out for heckling the umpire too loudly.

In the fifth inning of the Florida Marlins' 5-4 victory over the Washington Nationals, home plate umpire Paul Schreiber gave the thumb to an unnamed man seated behind the plate who had been verbally abusive throughout the contest.

"The fan was chirping at the umpire," Nationals catcher Brian Schneider said. "There was no need for it."

The man was so loud, and the atmosphere so quiet, the fan could be heard saying "you don't make more than me" on the television broadcast as he was forced to leave. There were no more than about 400 fans in attendance at the game's peak.

I saw the video on ESPN, the stadium was literally empty by the end of the game.

Oops, I pulled up the wrong box score.

Yeah, definitely not remotely close to 10K in the stands in that pic.

Isn't the official attendance # based on ticket sales, not how many come through the turnstiles? I think that's how they do it.

Yep, that is the official attendance (tickets sold) not turnstile count (actual attendance).

At some point, either South Florida politicos find the 'testicular fortitude' to fund a new retractable roof ballpark or the team should be allowed to move (hello Portland, Vegas, Charlotte, Montreal). This has been a problem since the team began play in 1993. Wayne Huzeinga boasted when he got the team that he would put a roof on top of then Joe Robbie Stadium if he had to right after he got the Marlins, but as we all know that never happened   (I guess he was waiting for state/city taxpayers to pay the bill on that project). If he was really wanting to help keep MLB in SoFla, he would let the Marlins use part of the parking lot to build the new ballpark on, which would save the team/state some money in construction costs I would think.

Can you imagine how bad a Charlotte baseball team would suck. We'd have the lowest payroll in the majors.

Why should they spend taxpayer money for a team that so few taxpayers even bother to see? The attendance problems have been there for years so why spend millions and millions of dollars to fund a empty ballpark? South Florida doesn't deserve a baseball team, move it to a place where it will be appreciated (not Charlotte, the same problems would show up here)....
