You might be right. we'll see. It may not be a fast process either, he is on the quarter system which means he is not here for OTAs.

Remember that the Panthers hardly used any of their time. They ran the pick up almost immediately, so Thompson was clearly their target all along.

Yeah when they were announcing Arizona's pick the screen already said our pick was in.

I just don't get the pick. If you really wanted Humphries but he was picked is Thompson really the best player on your board? Why not go for Owamagbe Odighizuwa or Jalen Strong or Clemmings? I guess you can say we had Beason when we drafted Luke but still if you really wanted a LB since Humphries was gone why not take Eli Harold?

I think we're prepping to dump davis, either during the draft or training camp- GMan set up the public humiliation of announcing his own replacement for a player he has determined is deserving of the dreaded 'distraction' label.

    J/K I hope...

Paul, Shaq Thompson is the player Dave Gettleman wanted all along. If Humphries and Ogbuehi hadn't been taken, the Panthers still would have chosen Thompson. Purrsy was correct about Gettleman (and I guess Rivera-McDermott) having a man-crush on Shaq. The more I thought about it the more I understood it based on how much they used that SS-LB hybrid role with Colin Jones down the stretch. My problem is that while I understand the rationale behind the selection, I personally hate using a first round pick on Shaq Thompson to fill that role. Someone like Junior Sylvestre has very similar skills and will be available on the third day of the draft precisely because he's a 'tweener who doesn't fit conventionally at linebacker or safety. Watch this if you want to get extremely depressed about our new addition:

He just gets pushed around. He looks to small to have an impact at LB

Gettleman said it was down to DJ and Shaq. He said them in that order. I believe him and they may not even have liked Clemmings who is strictly a RT IMO.

Not saying I'm in love with the pick but Shaq has talent so he'll help us and I thought they might go OLB early. I thought it would be Kendricks but whatever. Shaq and Kendricks are close to the same size and Shaq is faster and more versatile. At least that's what I'm telling myself now.

Thompson is not faster or more versatile. Kendricks actually had the better 40 time and isn't a complete zero against the run the way that Thompson is.
