Even with a trade? I'm assuming the trade partner assumes the hit, correct? If they can't re-work the contract?

No the team trading him away assumes the hit as a measure to prevent bait-and-switch-sign-and-trades.

    That's a lot of hyphens

    NFL Salary Cap - FAQ
What happens if a player is traded or retires?

Answer: We already know that if a player is waived on or before June 1, the remaining signing bonus that has not been included in salary “accelerates” and is included in that year’s team salary. Acceleration also occurs when a player is traded or waived and picked up by another team. The new team is not responsible for any of the original signing bonus. The team that waived or traded the player is responsible for the accelerated signing bonus (in the same manner as described above).

In most cases, if a player retires, the remaining signing bonus that has not been included in salary “accelerates” and is included in that year’s team salary. Thus, the team will take an immediate salary cap hit of the remaining signing bonus.

I thought we went over the DW $ituation and decided he was cuttable after this year.

If we could get a 10 year starter sure thing type for the OL at #14, we should. Otherwise, DT is not going to solve itself. Barring a clearly superior athlete being on the board when we pick, we need to address it. And from what people are saying there won't be.

I am feeling a little leery of taking a hard hitting S with the constant redefining of tackling/contact rules right now. They are gonna start suspending guys and then where are you?

    Dear fucking God.

    Thanks for the 411.

I don't keep up with all the rules and regulations and cap shit anymore...it's mind bending to try and comprehend how we allowed ourselves into this mess. God fucking damn, man.

I think I knew this...I'm pretty sure that my Panther depression has compartmentalized certain facts, and buried them in dark recesses of my mind - the same way a victim of an awful crime might do, when they forget horrible details as a way for their brain to cope.

Vaccaro isn't really a hard hitter like Elam. He actually spent a lot of time covering slot receivers at Texas, but he's good at just about everything. I'm with you in preferring a DT or OT, but I'm lukewarm on Richardson and Fluker.

And yeah, DW isn't tradeable right now. You can't apply the June 1st stuff to trades the way you can with cuts, so all of DW's bonus would accelerate to this season.

Yep I'm lukewarm too but what are you gonna do? I'd prefer to trade back if possible, if Floyd, Star and all of the top three OTs are gone but can't count on that.

I suppose Vaccaro would be okay at #14 if it came to that.

I think we need a FS anyway so Vaccaro fits that mold. I'd probably rather have Reid later but there is no guarantee he'll be there.

Can't really decide what I want atp. :stoned2:

I wish we had our third round pick so we could trade up.

I'm not that big on Reid. He's much more physically talented than Vaccaro, but brains and instincts are critically important at safety. I might rather do what I suggested a while back and take David Amerson at #44, then convert him to free safety.
