I dont know why but Ingram gives me the willies, I really would like him to be off the board before our pick. I just wonder if he'd be a jack of all trades, master of none kinda guy and i wonder if his size would be more exposed at the Pro level. And after Brown and Norwood, i just want no part of that as irrational as that may be.

I also get the same feeling i had watching Fairley when DT looked like the pick last year. Newton just stood out as the best football player on the field. I feel the same way about that as I do about Ingram and Alshon. I know everyone has him going in round 2 but I think he is the best SC product going into the NFL.

you may be right celt. He (AND Jeffery) might be just another excellent college football player that can't take the next step. . . Only time will tell. I just get the opposite feeling about Ingram and would love to pull for him on sundays

I'd be surprised if Ingram was a bust. I don't know if he's a great fit for how we ran our defense last year, but I can see him fitting in really well with the Jets or the Steelers. I did add the caveat of "how we ran our defense last year" because Rivera does have a history in the whale's vagina (Ron Burgundy reference) of using some 3-4, so he might have ways of using him. If you watch the guy on tape, SC lined him up at the DT, DE and OLB spots, and he did well at all 3. He reminds me somewhat of Elvis Dumervil in how he plays. My guess is that if they draft him, they've already envisioned how they are going to use him. I'd be ok with it simply because it's so imperative to have an effective pass rush, and I think he would help with that.

I'm not a fan of Alshon Jeffrey. I think he'll be an ok #2 in the NFL, but these days to be a good number 1 you just HAVE to have top end speed, and he doesn't. He reminds me of Dwayne Jarrett actually (when Jarrett was in college). He may prove me wrong, since I'm certainly no expert, but that's how I see it.

Speaking of 3-4 D, I wonder if part of the apparent interest in Kuechly involves us going to that scheme with he and Beason in the middle. We have guys like Applewhite and even Norwood that could OLBs, and while Anderson doesn't necessarily fit the 3-4 OLB mold he could probably perform reasonably well.

Then we rotate Edwards and Fua at NT, and Johnson, Hardy and Terrell McClain at the DE spots.

Someone with more knowledge in the area can correct me but it seems like Kuechly and Beas' are more run and chase LBs than the stack and shed guys taking on guards you see at least one of in a 3-4.

We'd need a beast nose tackle to even contemplate a full switch to a 3-4. Fua and Edwards aren't that. We also don't have the 3-4 OLB's (although Ingram can be that if we drafted him). James Anderson would be an awful 3-4 OLB. My post was referring to using the 3-4 "look" more often.

    Pretty apt comparison.

Actually I think Fua & Edwards might be better as a 3-4 nose than 4-3, but I agree with you about lacking the pieces on the outside. Beason & Kuechly would be a pretty nice pair of ILBs.

We could take Kuechly with the 9 and hope Jerel Worthy slides to us in the second. That would be a solid first two picks.

Those would be excellent first 2 picks.
