Starting at the top of Scope's 2006 list:

Titans | Team still negotiating with McNair over contract
    Sat, 21 Jan 2006 08:33:28 -0800

Jim Wyatt, of the Tennessean, reports Tennessee Titans QB Steve McNair's agent Bus Cook, talked with the organization again Friday, Jan. 20, and might be making progress toward a new contract. General manager Floyd Reese said, "We are getting to the point where we are trying to put numbers in slots and see what it looks like. We'll start throwing around numbers now."

Kerry Collins realizes returning to the Raiders next season is a long shot. He'll cost too much.

When asked Wednesday whether he believes he will be back, the quarterback said, "I don't know." He would count about $12.9 million against the salary cap next season.

"Certainly, I'm aware of my contract status and it would be hard to think that I would stay here under the current contract I have," Collins said

As HAVEPSL noted, both McNair and Pennington are expected to cut their salaries enormously or be released. Meanwhile Kerry Collins and Aaron Brooks are going to be released no matter what, while Brett Favre is still expected to retire (would need to restructure to come back in order to buy more help). Believe it or not, Carson Palmer is also expected to restructure down the contract he just signed in light of his recent injury. That makes you wonder if it wasn't just a P.R. move for his agent to sign a contract that big, but regardless, it's being sold as a move to allow them to bring in a good backup (or keep Kitna) given the uncertainty surrounding his health. That said, any restructuring for Palmer should still leave him at or very near the top of the 2006 base salary list. Then the agents for Trent Green and Marc Bulger have also been contacted about restructuring, with the Chiefs already well above the 2006 cap. Meanwhile Donovan McNabb is the one guy who probably won't be asked to restructure.

The fact that any of those guys is making more than Brady is a joke, however Tom and the Pats structured it that way so they would be able to keep the core of the team together.

Brady will get his money at the end of the deal and will have a fist full of rings to go with it. You would think others would be less greedy and follow the leader.
