Charlotte 49ers Release Men's Basketball Schedule, Niners To Play 13 Games vs. 2004 Post-Season Teams
    Charlotte49ers.com
    August 30, 2004

Halton Arena - With 13 games scheduled against 2004 post-season teams, the Charlotte 49ers have, again, unveiled a difficult schedule that delivers quality opponents and will make the 49ers attractive come NCAA Tournament time.

"It's another strong schedule," said 49ers head coach Bobby Lutz, whose teams have played schedules that rank on average among the 45 toughest in the country over the last six years. "We're excited about the schedule. We're confident that if we have a successful year, this is the type of schedule that will put us in position for an NCAA Tournament bid."

The schedule includes nine games vs. 2004 NCAA Tournament participants, including non-conference foes Valparaiso, Louisiana-Lafayette and Elite Eight qualifier Alabama. The 49ers have four games against teams that advanced to the NIT, including non-conference foe Rutgers, which reached the NIT semifinals.

"This is a very balanced schedule with home and road games," Lutz added. "We have an excellent home schedule with Alabama out of the SEC and Rutgers out of the Big East and Louisiana-Lafayette which is an NCAA Tournament team. The road schedule will be challenging. Davidson, Indiana and Valparaiso are three places that are very tough plus the Santa Clara Tournament (Cable Car Classic)."

And that is just the non-conference slate. The Conference USA schedule includes the annual home-and-home battles with Cincinnati, Saint Louis and East Carolina, while the 49ers also bring the likes of NCAA qualifiers DePaul and Memphis to Halton Arena. Charlotte will play post-season teams UAB, Marquette and Louisville on the road.

Of note, three of the 49ers six non-conference home games are against post-season teams and four of the eight conference home games are vs. 2004 post-season squads, giving Charlotte a home schedule that includes seven of 14 games against post-season competition.

The schedule includes nationally-televised contests at home vs. Cincinnati (ESPN, Feb. 5) and at Louisville (ESPN2, Mar. 3) . The Conference USA ESPN-Regional syndicated package and the 49ers local TV package have not been released, yet.

I think we can knock down another 20+ win season this year.

Looking for the Bama and IU game. Dave's gonna be crying at Halton this year. Make sure you take good pics of that too HP :D

I'm also looking forward to the UNCA game. My coworker is an Alum and long time friend. It'll be good for some smack talk.
