    1) Brandon Lloyd WR- Ill.
    2) Carson Palmer QB - USC
    3) Dallas Clark TE - Iowa.

I'd rather go with Carson Palmer as the QB, although Ragone has done more with less, Palmer just has great raw talent and is polishing that talent more and more.
Lloyd is the best WR in the Big 10, Rogers got shut out by Iowa...actually got his ass kicked ALL day.
Clark IS the best TE in college, IMO. Solid blocker with plush hands. Very Walls-like in the passing game.
Actually, we'll need to be thinking DT at some point day one. Good TE's can be had on day two, maybe a Ty Warren would be better in the third than a TE.

To get Witten, we should hope he falls to round 2. He won't be their in round 3.

He and the TE out of Michigan are both fine TE prospects that have not only speed, but hands, size, and blocking ability. Witten pretty much was our passing offense against the Gamecocks.

I like Trent Smith for all but blocking ability. Rate him 2nd. Dallas Clark has everything but experience, it seems. Robert Johnson has it all if you're looking for Dilger/Bruener.

That's too bad. I was able to watch him a bit against South Carolina, and I'm really starting to like him. I don't want to pick up another 5th or 6th round scrub to play TE. Our play there has been poor since Wesley's knees started giving out, and when he retires this year (prolly), I want quality on the field. I think a good TE is important in any offense, and if Henning makes it another year, it would really wake this offense up, IMO.

That being said, we've got more pressing needs at WR. We can't afford to wait until the 3rd round to start looking for one, IMO.

Here's an interesting email I got, I'm going to use it as is for now:

    >>>In today's print copy of the Rock Hill Herald are some pretty good (lots better than the Observer!!!) articles reviewing the season so far and several different looks to the future. As per usual the Herald hasn't gotten them on
    line yet. Such a shame.

Anyway......I recommend keeping an eye out for them and reading them. Gantt
broke things down position by position, listed possible free agents for the future and even came up with a Panthers mock draft for 2003 (which he states is just for fun and to give an idea of what positions the Panthers may be looking to fill thru the draft.

As far as the draft he has the Panthers taking WR Kelley Washington (Tenn) for their first round pick, FS Terrance Holt (NC State) with their 2nd round pick, OT Jon Stinchcomb (Georgia) with their 3rd, RB Dahrran Diedrick (Nebraska) and WR Arnaz Battle (Notre Dame) with their 4th round picks, DT Rashad Moore (Tenn) with their 5th, G Sherko Haji-Rasouli (Miami) with their 6th and FB Ovie Mughelli (Wake Forest) with their 7th.

I'm getting tired of typing so I'm not going to get into all the free agents.
One that he doesn't mention and that I heard about today is WR Donald Driver
from Green Bay. I don't think I'd mind having him around. ;-)

It all works very well other than that I don't particularly like Stinchcomb as a RT and Holt isn't a need. Going with a good runstopping one gap DT with penetration ability in the second wouldn't be bad.

i'm starting to wonder if carson palmer isn't a product of the system. norm chow has turned his ass around big time. if norm chow could come on as offensive coordinator...

if Norm Chow was here I'd mess myself, in no uncertain terms. Chow plus Ragone is, by 2004, better than the way Gilbride/Bledsoe looks right now.

No more drafted running backs, they should buy them on the open market already broken, it's cheaper.

  9. I don't know but I think if we could get johnson/price/engram then I wouldn't use a 4th round for a wr but another need. I still think we should draft someone like palmer/wallace/pickett/rivers in the 2nd round with brooks (if we can get him signed) then we would look decent for qb for the next few years. I mean brooks could start and we could bring up whomever we drafted to learn from him and he would be ready in 2/3 years and he wouldn't be thrown to the wolves. At the rb position I wouldn't draft anyone so we can find out how foster works out but pick up o.gary as a plan in case he doesn't (sign him on a contract like we did with smith). I think 3rd round depends on whether we sign a decent cb t.poole/bly in fa or not. If so then draft one later and if not then draft a cb in the 3rd round. 4th round I would go for a te if not already drafted or ol so we can get some youth in there that can contribute some and learn. I think we should address dt with thornton/hunt from fa if possible to replace gilbert and they will be worth it unlike their predecessor(gilbert). All of my fa's I have chosen or mentioned have 7 years in the nfl or less and cost 750k or less except for two individuals. I think through free agency and the draft we could make our offense better. Especially if we can get one of the wr's, rb's and qb's that I have mentioned. The defense could get a little better with some more depth by getting one of the cb's, lb's and dt's that I have also mentioned. If signing at least the above positions plus the draft we have a shot at the playoffs legitimately and they would be around for a while. I look at who we can bring in and contribute but has some youth but doesn't cost alot. Like I said on my prior post the only one that has over 7 years in the nfl is searcy with 11 years and the only person that costs over 750k is spikes for 1.2m . Maybe I'm dreaming but I think it would be acheivable especially since I was told our cap should be looking better next year plus the cap goes up. Another reason I was looking at a wr in the first is a qb in the first usually cost more in signing bonus and salary.

Actually, that's much more expensive. Foster is pretty easy on the old salary cap.
