We will have to take one of the DTs, I imagine. Myers, I suppose, maybe Young. Dotson is getting old.

Terry is a FA, let's see how he does. Pace will fetch a pretty penny (more than we can spend probably) and the Rams won't be able to keep him, but I'll take Page, Adams, or Dotson for a RT.

Lots of good, young WRs. Boston, K. Johnson, Cherbet, Coles, Hilliard, Jackson, Dyson, Price.

As big a talent as Boston is, I can't see him coming here after his drug bust. Chrebet is a good WR, but paired with Moose, he wouldn't be that affective. Two possession WRs ain't gonna cut it.
We need a burner opposite Moose. I like Booker, Price, and Dyson.

Pace is the only one that sticks out at OT, but there's no way we can afford him. We'll draft some one and hope one of the big contract guys gets axed.

DT, maybe Young and that's it. Myers isn't that productive in Dallas.

    CB-Bly comes home? McAllister maybe.

    >>We will have to take one of the DTs, I imagine. Myers, I suppose, maybe Young. Dotson is getting old.

Were it me, and my early tunnel vision, I'd wait and go for a DT in the draft. DTs in the open market are either aging, serviceable one dimensional players, overpaid younger players who had one good all-around year, or overpaid one dimensional youngsters.

Depends. If Jenkins blows up all-purpose, then it's possible to consider using a Myers. Otherwise, I think we need another big-timer inside in the first two rounds, and I'd stress that as much as CB. (granted, CB is no less cheap than DT in the open market, and we have to squeeze a WR in the draft as well.)

Myers, to me, is no better than Buckner, just younger.

    >>Terry is a FA, let's see how he does.

If he can excel at what we want him to do, sure. He was always athletic and supposed to be an above average run blocker - his limiatation was his knee-bending being non-instinctive, making him want to reach. I like him and if we can stay home grown then great. Otherwise, it doesn't break my heart to buy someone else, and I'd go in pretty much expecting that. My heart wants to buy from the draft instead, though to tell the truth I'm clueless where we'd come up with another pick that high. Expecting WR, CB, and DT in the top three rounds doesn't keep RT from coming up in the fourth, though.

    >>Pace will fetch a pretty penny (more than we can spend probably) and the Rams won't be able to keep him,

yeah. I just pass over that one. I expect he'll go somewhere off the wall, like Denver, where a new left tackle every year is the norm. It's funny how Denver pays for a left tackle...it's like the Steelers buying an expensive buck LB. oh, wait.

    >>Page, Adams,

not too bad. Mid-level guys. Flozell will probably get more money but IMO is an above average RT. Page wouldn't make a bad left guard for the right price.

    >>Dotson for a RT.

    Back problems and age.

    >>Lots of good, young WRs. Boston, K. Johnson, Cherbet, Coles, Hilliard, Jackson, Dyson, Price.

Chrebet has just enough speed. Coles has to be RFA. Boston will probably be under heavy demand but shaky market because of his off-field problems. I can see Ike Hilliard here, and don't want to. Dyson wouldn't be bad if we're going for the look of a 2nd guy with some speed, rather than an all-purpose guy who can be a go-to when Moose is off. Jeffers could be that guy, and that's why we had success.

McAllister at CB, somehow I think he stays. To tell the truth, they don't have to have him back, and that's what gets some deals done. The cover two isn't all about the star CB.
But there's a little history there, all the same. So who knows. Depends on whether we have at least one solid starter next year, if we have neither then it's time to cut Cousin as you'd figure, and then we'd have, what, Wesley and whatever of the other scrubs make the team through this year? That's pretty damn bare. Not much worse than what's in FA, though.

Mario Edwards might make an interesting mid-level project for the cover two side of our D, if we must. Would be fun to take a reclamation project in Westbrook, he's physical and works real well in a short range, but his health isn't something you build a D on. Too bad the draft's so short on CB this year.

I guess some of that depends if R.Anderson returns next year... I don't expect it... but possible

Forget about a FA WR next year, I'd rather see that addressed through the draft if possible. If I had to go with a guy it would be Kevin Johnson or Pearless Price, based on youth and overall talent for the price.
At DT, I like Steve Martin and Michael Meyers...both great names...talented and not terribly expensive. Martin can go inside or out.
Edwards and McCallister are the only CB's I would consider. I seem to remember seeing that Del Rio and McCallister were pretty chummy. Could be an inside track?
Luke Pettigot at OT would be a nice addition. I'd like to see Terry moved to guard or gone.

Chrebet is the name that jumps out at me. Reminds of Mark Bavaro in his prime, the whole damn world new Simms was going to throw to him on 3rd. and 8 and dammit if it wasn't a 9 yard reception every time.

  8. it's a little early to be looking at next year's free agents isn't it? Most of them will likely be resigned, some will be labeled franchise, etc. Others not on the list will be cut for cap purposes. some may even retire or get injured.

I guess that's what happens this time of year. I saw Athlon (sp?) already has there preview out...even though rosters aren't set. It's actually been out for a couple of weeks now.

Even assuming a pick, we will need depth at DT, perhaps starting level. An unglamourous guy like Myers would fit that bill. Gilbert is likely gone, Buckner is a FA, and Jenkins is still a ? And DTs go so early. Lewis, Stroud, Haynesworth. All potential, workout picks who, if they played at a different position, would likely go later. Everyonce and a while you land a Tripplet or Rogers who drops due to some abnormaility, but rarely do DTs drop.

Getting any mid-level FA shouldn't deter us from spending a first day pick on a guy we like. For example, we have Moose, and say we land Dixon at a decent price. I have little problem drafting a Kelley Washington or Williams should they fall. Same really goes for DT. Maybe not with a corner, but I expect we will have an eye on the draft when we look at FAs.
