DT might not be as big a push now that our offense will continually suck throughout 2002, but Jimmy Kennedy's playing at 310 instead of 340 now. Looks faster off the ball.

Well, there are already 8 rounds, so where do we get those extra picks?:)

Subtopic - in 2001, we bypassed a good QB in Brees for Morgan.
In 2002 we bypassed Harrington for Peppers. I ahve no problem with the picks. I certainly think that no amount of free agent activity could make us as good as the two picks will on defense. Not only that but we have a personality on defense now.

But how many years can we bypass a quarterback and get the star at another position? I really, really, really, really don't want to drop a #1 pick on a quarterback and bypass one of the three star receivers, I'll say that much. Can we honestly be that lucky to get Morgan, Peppers, and let's say Rogers, and then pick a Manning or Clausen?

Doubtful we'll be able to have our cake and eat it too next year. IMHO, with the talent coming out next year on the offensive side of the ball, I think we almost have to pull the trigger on offense and pick QB and WR #1 and #2 respectively. Then pray for a starting quality FA corner to be avaliable.

Well if current guesstamates from the so called experts are correct and the underclassman such as Manning, Claussen, and Grossman do come out next year the draft is going to be flooded with QB's. Saw one article where they mentioned as many as seven to nine guys rated with first round talent supposedly being available. If that's the case, we may be able to grab some one in the second. I don't see seven to nine teams going QB in the first.
Guys like Simms, Palmer, and Wallace will last until the second.

Manning's character and his family history suggest that he won't leave. Why would "sven to nine first round prospects" coming out, him being one, be enticing? Clausen, as well, probably won't come out IMO. It'll be hard to out-rate Leftwich, Manning could, but all the same with as competitive as it would be the incentive isn't there to have to fight tooth and nail every step to gain one spot.

Everything you're discussing, mag, makes me hope that our qb is already here, either Weinke or Fasani.

    One can dream.

Carson Palmer had a decent game last week against Auburn. Came in and lead a game winning drive, against a quality opponent. 23 of 32, over 300 yards passing.

He had an awful year last year, a lot of INTs thrown when he went up against big boys. And that was the one thing that stuck out, despite the win.

Two picks, misreads apparently, which has always been his bugaboo. He's like Sims, big arm, good athlete, can get out and move when he has to, big guy and he's accurate, but then he'll make that mistake.

Still one to look out for. He could take a step up. The measurables are there, he just needs to perform. Might be able to snag him as a second round "sleeper" in a strong year.

to be honest this team is two years away from being able to compete. that being the case, if Manning doesn't come out, we'll probably be in a postion to draft him in 2004. finish rebuilding the defense and start on the offense with a wr and ot.
