Just wondering, I have not seen this discussed yet but lets say (just for Shits and Giggles) that we get on a roll and win 3-4 and finish 7-9 with like the #12 pick or so. how would that change your draft approach? who would project available and who would you take?

That would be Ragone range, I would think. Of course the combines usually change EVERYTHING.
I don't know that a first round QB is all that necessary though, there are always guys from Poohville State that come on...if you do your home work you can find a Bulger or Holcomb waiting to be found.
I rather get someone to throw the ball to or some one to keep our FA QB from going to the ER (preferably King).

Probably still have a shot at Ragone if we wanted, and definately would be in range where I'd start thinking about a back. We'd be screwed out of receiver.
If Witten was valued good there, I'd think hard about that, being as how that would get us both a receiver and a blocker and it fits this offense. I do think it'd be worthwhile, being as how we could use production from the TE spot and he's one of the few in the draft that can both be productive as a receiver and give us push.

Personally, not being too high on Ragone, and thinking that a first round back is not the first option to take, it would certainly push things in an odd direction.

Granted, it does depend on what we do in FA.

Offensive tackle certainly becomes possible, but I'm against that no matter what. Until that's our only major offensive need, there's not much that would make me want to take a tackle high to mid first round. Guard is not a possibility at all obviously.

Defensive tackle and cornerback might be possible, though even a guy we're in love with won't be enough to keep us from getting an offensive skill position player first.

Obviously RB slipped my mind, that would definately be Johnson range, too. Right where I'd peg him.

From most of the mock drafts I've seen we would be able to get A. Johnson form anywhere inside the top 10. I figure at the most we win 2 more games (Cinci, Chicago) which would definitely make me consider a RB.

    1. WR (Johnson)
    2. RB (McGahee or Johnson)
    3. QB (Ragone)
Anyone of these guys with the 12th pick would be great, IMO.

I think we win this week's game and then tank the last 3 weeks. I mean we're playing the Bengals and Al Wallace is atleast a decent fill-in for Pep.

Well WP's idea wasn't whether we would or not. The idea was suspension of disbelief in order to talk about having a midrounder.

Just for arguement sakes lets throw out our competition for picks 1-6 and teams needs. It's pretty much a no brainer that Leftwich will be wearing Bengal colors next year and no doubt be played into obscurity in Cincy as thats where QB's go to die like the dinosaurs. After the Bungles what teams need QB the most. Now no one knows what will happen between now and draft day what with trades (picks and players), free agent signings and combine performances but here are teams (I know we have discussed this)

Teams with 3 wins (Detroit, Minnesota, Chicago and Houston) 3 have established or QB's of the future.

Teams with 4 wins (Carolina, Seattle and Arizona) all in desperate need off a QB.

So assuming teams draft for need instead of best available talent with this very important high pick it seems like our primary competion for Carson Palmer are the Bears, the Cardinals and Seattle. The Bears final 4 games are @ Miami, NY Jets, @ Carolina, and Tampa. The Seahawks finish with Philly, at Atlanta, St Louis and @ San Diego. The Cardinals finish with Detroit, San Fran, @St Louis and @Denver

Realistically (OK my opinion) I think the Bears win against maybe the Jets and us while the Seahawks don't win again. The Cardinals win against the Lions, and then lose the other 3. If we lose to the Bengals I don't think we win again this season.

Should we lose to Bengals this weekend and pretty much pack it in after it who wins the tie breaker between us with 4 wins, the Seahawks with 4 wins. This assuming Chicago splits their last 4 games thus giving them 5 wins
