    DE Julius Peppers (North Carolina/No. 2 overall) -- Signing bonus: $9,100,000. Base salaries: $1,000,000 (2002); $1,100,000 (2003, plus $150,000 offseason workout bonus); $1,350,000 (2004, plus $150,000 offseason workout bonus); $1,600,000 (2005, plus $150,000 offseason workout bonus); $1,850,000 (2006, plus $150,000 offseason workout bonus); $2,100,000 (2007, plus $150,000 offseason workout bonus); and $1,600,000 (2008). Notes: Contract includes a guaranteed second-level
option bonus of $4,050,000 next spring and when exercised, base salaries are reduced to $350,000 (2003), $600,000 (2004); $850,000 (2005); $1,100,000 (2006); and $1,350,000 (2007). There are also various escalators that could substantially increase the value of the contract. Total: seven years, $20,985,300 or, if escalators are realized, seven years for as much as $62,000,000.

And that would leave us $788,252 for Deshaun.

That should make Foster easy with a five year deal and $2.0m SB. then they can get creative with escalators for incentives reached in the second year of deal. that would make his rookie cap hit at $6-700,000 thuis year.

which should be plenty. First year salary $250k leaves room for a $2.6 million bonus over five years, which is a lot more than what Lito Sheppard got at 26. I don't believe it's the fact that they can't fit him in, just that maybe he's being a little high. Hell, Gaffney got $2.1 million over seven years. Take that over five and it's still just a total hit of $670,000. He'd basically be getting more money. I'm assuming this is the problem, signing bonus, because I believe someone quoted Hurney saying that's where the snag is.

Tampa still has 6 of 8 unsigned, four of them 6-7th rounders.

Ahh, you fast typer you :p
