Southern Conference underdog UT-Chattanooga beat Appalachian State, 59-56. In the fourth quarter App State had 3 drives resulting in touchdowns. The first went 69 yards in 3 plays; the second went 75 yards in two plays; the last went 89 yards in one play!!! :saywhat:

App State had 642 yds of total offense (410 yds passing, 232 yds rushing), while UT-Chattanooga had 695 yds of total offense (540 yds passing, 155 yds rushing)!!!!!!!!!

Amazingly, UT-Chattanooga had not won a game all season until they beat Western Carolina last week, 27-24. Prior to the WCU game, UT-Chattanooga oponents had scored an average of 51 points against UT-Chatt, while UT-Chatt scored an average of 23 points.

This defeat may very well be the death bell of Appalachian State's playoff hopes. Appalachian State seemed destined for the I-AA playoffs just a few weeks ago after knocking off then #2 ranked Furman several weeks ago. They were bullied by Ga. Southern in Statesboro the following week, but a playoff berth was still a strong possibility. App. State returned to top form when they handled then #6 ranked Wofford 38-17. This loss effectively drops Appalachian State to 3-2 in the conference and 5-4 overall. Statistically, App. State is out of the race for the conference championship (only Ga. Southern and Furman remain), which carries an automatic playoff berth, and rarely have teams received an at large playoff berth with 4 or more losses. That will be a shame, since App. State's explosive passing offense could make for some exciting playoff games.

man - how in the hell can ASU's defense go in the tank against UT Chattanooga like that when they know their playoff life is on the line.

Too many good teams in Div. 1AA this year for them to get in most likely. What a shame they can't showcase that offense in the playoffs.

I saw the score on an ESPN ticker and figured it had to be a typo.
