just saw part 1 on tivo. it started out really stupid and showed the suprising ability to get stupider by the minute -- culminating in part 1 with the brilliant strategy of using nuclear warheads to fuse a faultline. c'mon, haven't they seen superman? nukes on faultline will cause an earthquake, not stop it. morons.

the most annoying thing is the fucking camera work. they didn't have the budget to make a small production look big, so they just zoomed in so you didn't realize how small it was. and that camera verite stuff started to give me a headache after a while.

it struck me that disaster movies just aren't going to be the same post 9/11. we've got a blue print now for what happens with the shit hits the fan and so far, this flick seem like a pre-9/11 interpretation of a disaster.

So on a scale of 1 to 10, this movie was not a 10.5?

The scene with the toy cars falling off the bridge was pretty funny. The effects looked straight out of the 1960s.

It's a made-for-TV movie, what do you expect?

okay, so i watched part 2 tonight. i have to admit that i was really surprised that a movie could be so bad. i get the impression that they probably had a budget of about $250 for any "experts" to chime in with what an actual earthquake would be like.

you gotta love how people are like "hold on! look! it's stopping! the earthquake is stopping! we did it!" um... don't all earthquakes stop?

i also got a big kick by the strength of the earthquake being instantly readable. not only that, it would grow and shrink with the actual quake. as the quake subsides, the number decreases. wtf? after a quake ends is when you determine how big it was.

i can't believe i wasted 3+ hours of my life watching this crap.

tivo has it's downfalls. normally i just watch basketball and occasional movies. but tivo gives me the option to watch stuff i would normally miss. (like crappy miniseries). at least i didn't have to watch the "quakehold" and insurance commercials...
