About 8 years, I think. I kept them tied back most of the time and they were quite bulky, so the biggest difference is that I can now sit in a high-backed chair without having to lean forward, and I can sleep on my back! I don't stand out in a crowd any more, which has both good and bad points. I can't say I miss them, but I'm glad I had them because, in a way, they changed the way I lived my life. Many people I wouldn't normally have met started conversations with me because of them, mostly music-minded people, but also many black Americans when I've been in the States. Don't white people wear dreads in America?

Perhaps not, but also looking at your friends list it's obvious some of them are...

Wow, someone spoke to me. Hi WW, I hope you too are doing well. Alas I am 'dread' no more. I cut them off last week and now have a plastic bag full of eighteen-inch locks on the floor of my bedroon. I just can't get around to throwing them away, they've been a part of me for so long. I'll keep the name, though. Obviously you are still a 'Wonder Woman'!

He almost did. But you know, I've always had a way of coming up big when the chips are stacked against me. Last year, I became the first coach in a decade to win at least one game with four different starting quarterbacks. Carving out seven wins in such a season was a reflection of my ability to adapt and improvise, which is something that I learned from my father. And that season reinforced my reputation as one of the top head coaches in the National Football League.

As I watched the California sunset from the team bus, all I could think about was you.
