I know it will never friggin’ happen BUT I would love to see owners and GMs just say NO to getting jacked by agents. If they are not kept somewhat in check agents will drive the market so high that it will weaken sports organizations, all but the most elite players, the fan base that supplies most of the revenue and ultimately the sport itself. There could definitely be more control to keep salaries in a clearer reasonable range that would be fair to both the player and their employer. If it took every team to let all 32 first rounders sit on their asses with their greedy agents and their disproportionate demands for an entire season I would be all for it. However, that surely can’t be the only way to seize control back from the all-powerful agents who seem to be able to push the market wherever they want it.

I think rookies ought to be limited to 4 year contracts. By then you know if they're going to work or not, even with injuries. If they don't, you're saved 2 to 3 years of cap hell when you cut them.

    Simple answer:

Graduated pay system with a pay per performance incentive kicker.

The NFLPA will never let it happen, but ALL Pro sports need this.

Yeah, I guess there will eventually be someone with more brains, and power (and BALLS) than the ravenous pack of agents that rule right now and they will probably institute something so simple in principle that people will wonder “why wasn’t this done years ago?!” The salary cap thing was a decent start but unfortunately it doesn't keep unscrupulous loophole-exploiters from getting kids straight out of college (and high school?!) paid unjustified guaranteed $$$ based completely on what the kid MIGHT accomplish in the future. The fact is that none of them have done a damn thing yet and until they prove themselves they should be paid based on their actual present-day worth and performance, NOT the whiff of promise that snake oil promotional hypnotists conjure up around them. The entire concept of “pay for promise” is completely illogical and moronic when you think about it for more than 2 seconds. Would any of us give a storage bin full of our cash to some kid who is supposed to do a job for us over the next 5 to 7 years purely based on what he MIGHT do? Hell no! Would any of us expect to be paid in that manor where we work? Hell no again. You do a job THEN you get paid . . . no ambiguous guarantees. The only players who “might” be deserving of those damn ridiculous guaranteed bonuses are the vets who have proven their worth and durability over time and trial. A support network set up by the league should handle the high possibility of career ending injury if that is the angle that some proponents are going to take to defend the ludicrous cash that is forked out. The league could surely figure out how to organize a “back to work and/or back to education program for guys whose football careers are cut short so they can still thrive with the full support of the NFL. There really has got to be more of a “pay for play” situation in the NFL and professional sports in general. Could a structured scalable system for initially paying rookie athletes help sports? Yes, I definitely think so. Would that system hurt sports agents right where they live (in the wallet)? Who fuckin’ cares . . . I wouldn't cry if guys like the Postons wouldn’t be able to afford yet another 80 thousand dollar set of wheels to put in the garage of yet another “summer home”.)

The problem is most agents are the sharks known as attorneys in disguise!

I think that by what position and what round should depend on what your salary is. A set salary. Example say 1st round 1st pick would be say a 4/5 year deal for 12 mil. This way the player gets some coin but not overly too much without being proven and have it incentive laden. Now if the club wants to offer a better contract then that would be an option. This way you don't get stuck with a huge contract if your pick is a complete dud or gets injured. This would be a dream though and the numbers I stated are just an example not actual figures.
