If Sandy comes back, it will be the first time I listened to WFNZ since getting XM in January 03.

    No longer an 'if'

come on guys, you're letting me down. do some reporting:

Copyright Times Publishing Co. Jun 18, 2004

Underrated and (due mostly to his time slot) underappreciated, Sandy Penner will have his final show for WDAE today, ending a four- year run.

Penner is returning to Charlotte and WFNZ, where he worked before coming to Tampa. Penner co-hosted a show there the Charlotte Observer named the area's best sports show.

It's a great move for Penner. He will work a midday slot in the heart of the college basketball world, one of his favorite topics. In Tampa Bay, hoops talk equates to radio death.

"He's going back to an area he really, really loves," WDAE program director Brad James said. "I'm happy for him. We're going to miss him, no question about it."

James said Penner, who did the 6-8 a.m. show, routinely doubled the ratings of his competitors.

Since the passing of Chris Thomas, Penner has undisputably been the most knowledgeable personality in the market.

James said WDAE will simulcast Dan Sileo's show out of Orlando. Ironically, Sileo (a former Miami Hurricanes and Buccaneers lineman) used to work for WDAE until Penner replaced him in 2000. Sileo left for at-the-time-fledging Fox Sports Radio Network, but hated Los Angeles and returned to Florida.

    Chris Thomas died? When?

I remember liking Sileo a lot, and disappointed Penner took that spot. After a while, Penner grew on me. Sileo was funny as shit though.

    He died in February of Caner . . . I think he was 55 . . . .

Sandy Penner got replaced by Dan Sileo (former Fox Sports Radio host & Bucs Lineman). He works at an Orlando Sportstalk station owned by Clear Channel, which simulcasts on WDAE in Tampa Bay now. Funny, when Sandy first got to Tampa, he replaced Dan :D :D !!!!!!!!!!!

Disturber Blurb on Sandy Penner Returning to the CLT

I wonder if Penner is going to appear on any CSET programming when it comes on in the Fall  ? ? ? Piddling around the SUNSHINE NETWORK site, I saw he was on a local version of the Sports Reporters . . .

    Damn, I thought for a 2nd Hoopsradio was going to get his chance :( :( . . . What happened Hoops ? ? ?
