Next year the Tarheels......

I never really saw this team devolve into street ball. They just never played smart basketball and certainly never figured out how to play defense.

McCants is a very good on the ball defender but I can't begin to count the times he had had his head turned and lost his man. same goes for May, Williams and even Manuel. None of these players seem to ever make many smart decisions and Felton is the biggest culprit. Making ill advised passes at the wrong time. Handing the ball off to May 25 feet from the basket then running the other direction and leave May out there all alone. Numerous examples can be found.

I hope Roy can figure out a way to improve their collective basketball IQ in the offseason or next year won't be much better than this one

 

Fundamentals!!! Maybe we can get Tim Duncan to come and do a clinic for these guys. They have natural ability, but basic skills even, they just seem to lack.

 

I would honestly be surprised if you guys have either Curry, Marvin Williams or McCants their next year. I think McCants is gone to the league. He's probably a top 15 pick if he has a good workout. With his athleticism, explosiveness and jump shot he reminds me of Cuttino Mobley except he's stronger and leaps hihger.

 

except that he can't dribble worth a damn - a shooting guard that can't drive into the lane without losing his dribble won't last long in the NBA.

He needs to stay at UNC and keep working on his game IMO.

Doubtful if Curry ever makes it to UNC. But he will probably end up at some mid-major, have a stellar career and then kill the Heels in the NCAA when they finally meet up.

 

...and if by chance they want him to play a little defense from time to time in the NBA......forget it.

North Carolina swingman Rashad McCants, the ACC's leading scorer, said emphatically following the Tar Heels' loss to Texas on Saturday in a second-round game in Denver, that he would return to school for his junior season.

"I'm definitely coming back," he said. "We're going to have a great team next year."
Prior to the season, there was plenty of speculation that this would be the last year in Chapel Hill for McCants, a 6-foot-4 sophomore, and sophomore point guard Raymond Felton. But the year was somewhat disappointing for the Tar Heels, who finished 19-11 overall, 8-8 in the ACC and lost in the first round of the ACC tournament and the second round of the NCAAs.

McCants was named first-team all-conference and averaged 20 points and 4.8 rebounds, shooting 40.8 percent from three-point range. But scouts in Denver didn't think he handled the ball well enough to play off guard in the NBA, and he's not tall enough to play small forward.

Felton, the ACC's preseason player of the year, was named to the all-ACC third team and averaged 11.5 points and 7.1 assists, but he shot just 31.2 percent on three-pointers.

"I expect to have all of them back," Coach Roy Williams said. "I really do."
