Charlotte's Brendan Plavich Named C-USA Player of the Week,
Junior Guard Hit 10 Three-Pointers in Victory Over Defending National Champion Syracuse

    From Charlotte49ers.com

Halton Arena - Charlotte 49ers junior guard Brendan Plavich (Dalton, Ga.) has been named the Conference USA Player of the Week for the week ending Nov. 30, 2003.

Plavich averaged 21.0 points over three games, last week, helping the 49ers post a 3-0 record.

The highlight of the week came when Plavich hit 10-of-17 three-pointers at #7/#7 Syracuse as Charlotte posted a 96-92 victory over the defending national champions. Plavich finished the game with a career-high 31 points as Charlotte became the first team in NCAA history to hand a defending champion a loss in its season-opener at home. It also marked Syracuse's first-ever home loss in a season-opener at the Carrier Dome. Plavich's 10 three-pointers in a game establish a new school record for the 49ers as well as a new arena record for the Carrier Dome. The 10 threes are also the most three-pointers ever by a Syracuse opponent and they match the Conference USA single-game record set by Cincinnati's Melvin Levett, in 1997.

Plavich scored 18 points (6-of-9 3FG) in the first game of the week, vs. North Carolina A&T. He netted 31 against Syracuse and completed the week with a 14-point, four-assist and five-steal performance at UNC Asheville.

For the week, Plavich hit 20-of-35 three-point attempts (.571), scored 63 points and added seven assists, five steals and committed just one turnover.

Plavich becomes the first 49er to win the award since Jobey Thomas in January, 2002.

This marks the 15th time that a 49er has won the award. DeMarco Johnson, Sean Colson and Jobey Thomas hold the 49ers record of being named Conference USA Player of the Week three times during their careers. Rodney White (2), Cam Stephens, Demon Brown and Tremaine Gardiner are the other 49ers that have also won the award.
