    Re: Division I Universities MUST...

I think those above meant 1AA. You are correct, D1 schools must play 1A or 1AA. FIU is a D1 school and are playing 1AA like App or WCU.

Georgetown plays D-I basketball and D-III football. I'm sure there are other examples.

Edited because I was wrong about Davidson.

You can not begin a football program without beginning in the Division you currently participate in. If Tulane had wanted to drop down to say D-II in football due to their financial woes, they would have needed to leave C-USA as well in their other sports.

That's funny, Espn.com has Georgetown in the I-AA Patriot League.

I think Mike was confused because neither Davidson nor Georgetown offer scholarships for football. They still both play 1AA football however.

Davidson is an associate member of the Pioneer Conference for football.

    metro,

what effect will the A-10 conference have on the Charlotte baseball program? northeast winters are not conducive to playing ball in late winter and early spring. a lot of the schools in that part of the country head south to start their seasons.

YOU CANNOT PLAY DIVISION III SPORTS AT A D1 SCHOOL!!!!! Aren't you the sports editor at a major newspaper :D  ?? Gtown plays D1AA football as stated above in the Patriot League, a 1AA league. If you play Division III football, ALL sports must also. :D

Plain and simple, us and Richmond should dominate the new A10. This conference will be very close to what the Metro was in the early 90's competition wise, and we won the tourny or regular season 3 of those 4 years. CUSA has been very difficult, as it is considered about the 4th best conference in the country for baseball (behind SEC, ACC, PAC), and our facilities have sucked compared to the rest of the league, but that is now in the process of changing. I also would think it will allow us to recruit alot of northern players, because they willl want to come south and the A10 is a very well known league in the north.
