If Cooper is gone, I wonder if Eugene Robinson could come out the booth and help us out.

Smith broke Bright's nose with a single punch, or maybe 2. The "almost killed" stuff was hype from Bright's agent. And the feeling on the email list was that Bright was indeed provoking him, subtlely. If Smith does it again, I presume he would be gone.

Coop's case may be more complicated that it first appears. I would not cut him just for driving with the revoked license, and he may have been given the drugs by the team doctor. I would be surprised. You don't hand out narcotics like you do antibiotics. There are special rules for narcotic presciptions. (Can't be phoned in, must be in writing, maybe something about special record keeping, etc.)

To me, refusing the breathilizer is a negative, not a positive. Why refuse it?

I do think the Panthers have a no tolerance 2nd offense policy. Coop needs to come out of this smelling like a rose to survive. Otherwise, the players will know its different rules for different players.

Vicoden? Bah. I've taken that before (legally). Hell if I know if it's addictive though.

Speeding? Uhh.. We all do it every day.

If he was drunk, there's a problem. The driving with a revoked license was plain stupid.

I think a suspension and drug counseling and piss tests to the team are the right punishment.

And the right thing for Jarrod.

Terry beat the shit out of his wife while his kids watched, skipped practices, and skipped court dates. Cooper did not.

Lamar Smith actually paralyzed someone in a DWI several years ago.

I don't think he should be cut. I think he should be punished and cared for, and the thrid strike means you go. Cooper is part of the team's spirit, and I think he's got a good heart - he's just got a problem and the team needs to help him. If they can't help him, let him go.

All this talk of 'family'. The team is like a big 'family'. I think that needs to be considered.

I agree with Meat, he is a big part of the family. If he is willing to seek help stick with him and support him. One DUI may be bad luck or lack of judgement a second is a problem. He gives 100% on the field and hasn't had any big legal issues. Give him a chance. I bet Scotty O'Brien will have a say.

I've been told by Lawyer friends and friends who are cops never to blow. It's better to loose your licence for a year then have a DUI on your record.

This is football. We should be recruiting in prisons. Bus them to the stadium on Sunday and then bus them home.
