Panthers/Jags Not Soldout . . Blackout Sunday!!!!!

Just heard the word on WFNZ's SPORTSFLASH (1:30pm) . . . No game on TV this weekend . . . Since this was going to be a CBS game, I'm surprised for the 2nd year in a row the CBS stations in the Carolinas didn't buy the remainder of the tixs to get this game aired. They only get 2 Panthers games to air during the year. There were only 700 tixs left to sell; That wouldn't have been a financial burden for them to bare. They could've given them out to 1) military families 2) local charities . . .

 

I dont thinks CBS care if the game is going to be on TV or not they only Show 2game this year so why wouid they care

 

Dukey: Since this is an AFC vs. NFC game with the Panthers being the home team, the area CBS stations get to show this game (the other 14 games will be on area FOX stations this year). Since the area CBS stations (Charlotte, Winston-Salem/Greensboro, Greenville-Spartanburg/ Raleigh-Durham TV Markets) only get to show 2 Panthers games per year, I would think they would do more to make sure they got on the air

thats lame. the rule should be changed to 1000 or less seats or something. glad I've got tix to the game. Sec 551 ,the place to be!

 

It suck that the NFL cant be like baseball as far as Blackout go look at the Braves they play on TBS and some time we the game is a home game and the game never get Blackout on TBS

The Panthers home opener against Jacksonville Sunday will be televised after the NFL extended the team's deadline to sell the remaining tickets.

The team sold the remaining 750 tickets by the 1 p.m. Friday deadline, avoiding a television blackout that would have affected the Charlotte area, Raleigh, Winston-Salem and Greensboro.

The NFL extended the 1 p.m. Thursday deadline to 1 p.m. Friday. The game must be a sellout in order to prevent a blackout

 

There goes my Sunday afternoon, I can;t go down there this weekend due to other things here.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Sunday's opening game for the Carolina Panthers' 2003 season will not be televised after the team failed to sell out its tickets under an extended deadline Friday.

The NFL gave the team another 24-hour extension that ran out at 1 p.m. Just after that deadline, News 14 Carolina's John Agresti went to the ticket window and was told that there were still tickets available. As a result, it appears that the game will be blacked out for the region.

Normally, a team has until the Thursday at 1 p.m. before the game to sell its tickets. At that time, Thursday, the Panthers had 750 tickets remaining. Team officials had hoped that the extra time would be sufficient to sell the rest of the seats.

NFL regulations require that the blackout extends at least 75 miles. Panthers officials said it will extend to Greensboro, Winston-Salem, High-Point and possibly into Raleigh and South Carolina.

Even sports bars who have the NFL Sunday Ticket are prohibited by NFL rules from showing the game if it is not sold out.
