hate to cut Hankton, but Baker in his place gives us another WR. In other words, we'll be keeping a lot of special teams depth other places that we're deeper with offensive players.

Yeah, I agree...but wasn't Hankton one of two Panthers identified as the best special teamers in the league? Surely that has got to help him land somewhere else????

certainly could. And that means it could be here, too. If they feel like they have enough returners, that might mean keeping Hankton, not Smart, or not Bates. Or maybe Hankton over Wilkins, who's a good PR but has shown to be a somewhat shaky reserve receiver compared to Baker. So then you're keeping ST, in a different way.

So it's hard to say. I think we'll keep five receivers, including Baker, and then it'll come down to special teams. What they'll keep in mind, that would be harder for us to figure out, is that they have to keep the 53 man balance in check by remembering that they'll have 45 to make active. Keeping Baker, for instance, won't help if we'll make him inactive unless injury ahead of him, where you'd have to keep Wilkins active anyway because he would be the PR.

Tell the truth it's more confusing the more you push into it.

Your right. And unless my math is bad, a 45 man active roster means 8 players don't dress. But those inactive aren't usually receivers right? (Someone out to start a thread on that cause I'm not sure if the 3rd string QB counts in that 45 as there are special rules to bringing him in.)

We have Cooper... he's all but assured to be a gunner on ST... that leaves 2 roster spots to be a gunner

If we keep Hankton, Smart or Bates one are gone. I don't expect Smart gone due to the fact he's younger and can run if necessary. The Skip Hicks release decided that one. Bates can be a gunner and a kick returner... while they are both special teams duties it IS two separate duties... he's also been known the be a solid locker room presence... I'm thinking Hankton is gone... he's solid on ST's, but the cupboard is full... had he shown he could be even a competent receiver he'd have probably held his job, but the drop of that WIDE WIDE open TD pass vs. the Pack had to hurt him.

not sure if he counts towards the 45, but I do know that the ONLY way he can come in is if BOTH of the 1st QBs are unable to play

    let's get this straight

He didn't DROP the pass, he never had it. They guy batted it away before he could catch it. The coaches know that from watching film. Just wanted to get that out. Thanks.

So, Hankton. Who's really gonna start at QB?

Hmm, looking at the early poll results it looks like it will be a hard decision for the Fox team. I wish them well. I think if we keep 6 guys it will be Wilkins who is gone...but that is probably just me.
