If I were to buy my own cable modem, would it be cheaper for the service?

No other than not having to buy the modem from time warner, but usually they give you a free modem if you comit to a year of service.

I have always figured that they were charging you to lease the cable modem and that is figured into the cost somehow...

I'm looking at Earthlink Cable that uses TWC lines...It's cheaper too! 41.95 compared to 45 a month plus the first 6 months for $29.95.

i might be mistaken, but i've got RR from TWC and i think i remember reading from their literature that if you have your own cable modem, that's fine, but if there are problems w/ the connection, i think they have "trouble" helping you out b/c it's not their modem, you know how tech support is. you do get the modem for free, at least there's no outright charge to you, it's probably included in the 44.95/mo though.

We rent ours for like $1 a month or something. I just assume do that instead of ponying up a bunch of money to replace the CM if it went bad.
