It looks like his new TV show will debut sooner rather than later . . . Southern Fried Sports Show will be debuting possibly in April on WTVI (local PBS Station) for 13 weeks . . . . Its going to be setup like FOXSPORTS 'Best Damn Sports Show', but it will only last 30 mins.

SOUTHERN FRIED SPORTS SHOW Coming Soon ?

Packer won't know what to do when he is on public TV and can't hawk every product known to man. Will he still have Packman Platters and all the Southern Fried commercialism?

    Im just curious....

....I have nothing against Packer, but I want to know how I can get the Observer guy to be my agent the way he is Packer's agent. I mean, he can't report enough about Packer--and mayber that's because no one else in the market is making contractual headlines, and that's fine, but just a reminder....

I already do a 30 minute local sports show with highlights, guests and call ins.....I hope the sports fans in Charlotte remember that once Packer's PBS gig launches.

Mike: What you need to do is murmur on SPORTS NIGHT about your upcoming contract talks . . . Just say it was a short-term contract and your hoping to get a long term deal to stay at NEWS14-Charlotte O-R you might head elsewhere (just blame the Time Warner Cable suits in __________** for the impasse). Notice how well it worked for Packer ;) . . . . .

To be 'serious' Mike, the real problem here is that the Observer needs to have a true SPORTS MEDIA columnist like it use to have several years ago; David Poole originally had the gig (before he got the NASCAR beat) and then Langston Wertz Jr., who got 'thrown under the bus' so many times by the local readers/Packer/Gerry Vallincourt for his lack of writing skills that he was reassigned to cover the video game beat (in addition to his regular High School coverage). A city with 1, and soon to be again 2 pro teams, college hoops/football, NASCAR coverage HQ for ESPN (their studios are located by CAROWINDS, if I remember correctly) several folks with Charlotte ties doing national sports (Jim Lantz, Billy Packer, etc.) there's no reason why the Observer shouldn't have a weekly column!!!!!!! The Hartford Courant has a pretty good one (and they don't have a pro team for god sake . . . Just UConn hoops) covering what's going to be on TV in the Hartford/New York TV markets the upcoming weekend, what was said on WFAN & WEEI (which can both be picked up in Hartford), NFL ratings in CT (a few times if I remember correctly, more folks in CT are watching the Jets and/or Giants vs. the New York market!!!!!!!!!), etc.

    hey Solarte

One of the problems with your show on News 14 Carolina is that I am one of the 50% or so of sports fans in this market that subscribe to DirecTV, and hence do not get your channel. Your hardcore guys that want the specialty sports packages (that until recently were unavailable on Time Warner and i believe football is still unavailable) are all on DirecTV and if they are like me, are in no hurry to switch back to TWC. Will News 14 Carolina ever be available on the dish? If not, I really think you are losing half of your audience. But I did enjoy listening to you on the Monday night show with Gary Williams.

daley, news 14 will never be on satellite since they are half owned by Time Warner.

sorry. had to spit out the company line.

I know what you're saying about sat. dish receivers and such, but that wasn't what I was driving at. I was merely driving at the point that there was (and is) a 30 minute sports show on now, and Packer's won't be making a splash other than a different format. That's all.

Solarte: When are you going to let QCH cohost SPORTSNIGHT with you :D :D ? ? ? Perhaps you two could do a POINT/COUNTERPOINT segment a la PTI ;) . . .

    PS: I would watch SPORTSNIGHT more, but I work from 11pm-7am :( . . .

Actually, ESPN moved their studios to Ballantyne a couple years ago. They're no longer out on Carowinds. Pretty nice facility they have in Ballantyne.

I have not seen Solarte's show on 14, and doubt I'll tune into Packman's show either. What makes Packman successful is that he has a captive audience being on radio (and lord knows, many days listening to him I've felt like I was a captive) -- meaning people in their cars have little else to do other than listen to radio. That said, expaning out to tv and into the home brings a lot more choices. How many of these shows can the market bear? Packman's show is a good fill for me in the car, but I don't really want to bring him into my home.

    Just my opinion.
