I'm really hoping Theilen is a surprise cut. I'd rather take my chances with Mingo or ISM in the slot. I just can't imagine him being effective for another 17 games at his age.

Do they move him to guard before or after they pick up his option?

Canales is going to be all about the run and Icky will be fine. He's going to be great in the run game, and will continue to develop in pass protection. And he's playing next to Hunt. This is not going to be an area of concern this year.

Looking at the comments makes me think how they took some hard swings in the draft. I don't know if they had any hits or misses. The hardest swing they took was Brooks at RB. Behind that OL last year Walter Payton would have struggled. So they draft a RB with a busted knee that may be ready early in the season, but the supposedly top center or CB in the draft was available at that spot. Then they go after a TE next when a so called top LB was available. Then they skip over EDGE and LT competition in the draft. The draft picks they chose, I think, have to contribute positively for the Panthers to have a decent season.
Decent would be 7 wins. Good would 9 wins. Great would be 10 or more wins.
Anything less than 7 could be anything from a meh to a WTF was that season.

I don't think Morgan is in "win-now" mode, but he's definitely in "fix-this-shit-now" mode, and the draft reflected that. He drafted like he was plugging holes and not going for the BPA, which could come back to bite us later but it could also mean that the rookies will get more chances to develop and he may end up looking pretty good.

In his world, he has a solid RT and a LT who should do really well in Canales' system. So he beefed up the center of the line and set out to transform the offense into a run-first team. He is happy with Corbett at center, and doesn't want to wait for a rookie to get comfortable. Given that we really need to know what we have in Young, I get that decision.

Obviously we needed a WR, but after that he took the best RB available, and when the best pass-catching TE was still there he snagged him as well. I'm still unsure about the Trevin Wallace pick but it's worth noting that two other LBs were taken after Wallace before the Steelers snagged Wilson, so we weren't the only team shying away from his injury history. And I'm sure that after a career where he missed half his games, Morgan is probably loathe to take someone who might be injury prone.

I don't doubt that we might send Miles packing to Dallas for a draft pick at the trade deadline.....or before

I don't think anyone's going to give a draft pick for that contract...

Bringing in some vet edge help to kick some tires. meh

    "Carl Lawson
    NYJ • DE • #58

Lawson spent the past two seasons with the New York Jets, but played in just six games with zero starts this past year. The 29-year-old did record seven sacks and 33 combined tackles in 2022, bouncing back from an Achilles tear that stole his 2021 campaign.

    Yannick Ngakoue
    CHI • DE • #91

Ngakoue recorded 22 combined tackles and four sacks for the Chicago Bears in 2023 before a broken ankle ended his season. He has played for six different teams over the past five seasons, but recorded 9.5 sacks for the Indianapolis Colts in 2022, and 10 sacks for the Las Vegas Raiders the year prior. A third-round pick out of Maryland in 2016, Ngakoue has recorded 69 sacks in eight NFL seasons.

    Marquis Haynes
    CAR • LB • #98

As for Haynes, he has spent his entire career with the Panthers after being selected in the fourth round out of Ole Miss back in 2018, but hit the free agent market this offseason and hasn't yet found a new NFL home. In 71 career games played for Carolina, Haynes has made just two official starts, but recorded 99 combined tackles, 14 sacks and 18 tackles for loss."
