The tide has certainly turned with the press and the talk of what the panthers may accomplish.

Prior to spit-roasting America's Team, I had considered long term implications. Not just the thought of a 3-peat of the NFC South, which in and of itself seems like crazy talk. I was thinking in terms of talent level, success, wins, and long term legacy.

We've really had none of that in 20 years. Our owner has more of a legacy than our team. I think it's hard to see that being Panthers fans, but it's probably more than a little true.

Now, we've got some real interesting shit happening. 89 certainly has strong HOF potential, but the teams he was a part of seem like another thing altogether. This is very different. The play, the attitude, the wins. The consistency.

Winning elevates everything. Talk of Newton as MVP, Kalil being the anchor up front, Keekly, maybe Davis, Norman, and Olsen. Coaches, too. Rivera's legacy with the Bears. I'm not arguing for or against, I'm not promoting. I'm going way the fuck beyond 'win the next quarter'. There's some long term shit going on. 90 days ago, I never would have considered this.

It seems like we're becoming the team that Richardson always wanted.

The way the 'game' is, singularly, anything can happen. See the Patriots Super Bowl loss to go 18-1. And their win last year. Football Gods. But their success over the past 14 years? That's not.

Richardson must be getting ready to die. The superstition among gamblers is that you go on one final humongous roll before you die.

I think the media has been gunshy of the panthers. It's not just that we are a small market team, it's that we've never been consistently successful. We went to the Championship game the 2nd year, then the gutter for a while. Then under Fox went to the Superbowl, then back down to a team that was iffy and inconsistent. I believe now that the culture and stability of the organization has been fixed and we're seeing it mature into a team that will be seasonally competitive. I think the media is starting to catch on to that.

I have a Braves World Champions coffee mug from 1995. Looked at the time like I would be adding more. Still drinking out of that ************ 20 years later.

Win one first, then let's talk about how great we are going to stay.

It's because of the market. I've noted more than once that the Panthers are one of only four teams to play in the divisional round each of the last two years. The national media will always have a bias towards the New York's and Boston's and Washington's.
