You're correct, I phrased that wrongly, as the signing bonus amount is limited but teams can choose to guarantee any percentage of the contract (~$1.5 million). He could also play a or two year in the CFL and then come back, like Duron Carter.

CFL isn't a reasonable option. Team salary cap there is roughly $5 million/team and QBs get over 10% of that. Top player at other positions are only in the 100 K neighborhood. He'd be best served to take the best guarantee he can get and try to arrange an early renegotiation.

    It's moot.

Seeing Jerry Richardson sitting in that chair on draft day reminded me we're staying away from any player who even got in a fight with their mother.

The guy is fucking this franchise.

Gettleman probably never offered since the answer is obviously on our roster.

    That's what it seems like.

Gettleman better be right about Oher. I damn sure have little faith considering his astute talent evaluation of OL talent to date.

And I finally took a minute to look at something I've wondered about, the draft history of NY Giants involving OL.

National Football League: NFL Draft History - by Team

    1998, T in the 5th (#147) Toby Myles
    1999, G in 1 (#19) Luke Petitgout, G in 5 Mike Rosenthal
    2000, no OL taken
    2001, no OL taken
    2002, T in 3 (#78) Jeff Hatch
    2003, G in 5 (#160) David Diehl, G in 7 (#249) Wayne Lucier
2004, G in 2 (#34) Chris Snee (think Coughlin had a little input? His SIL), T in 7 (#203) Drew Strojny
    2005, None
    2006, T in 4 (#129) Guy Whimper
    2007, T in 6 (#189) Adam Koets
    2008, None
    2009, T in 2 (#60) Will Beatty (highest T taken in tenure)
    2010, G in 5 (#147) Mitch Petrus
    2011, T in 4 (#117) James Brewer
    2012, T in 4 (#131) Brandon Mosely, T in 6 (#201) Matt McCants

1st year Gettleman was gone: wait for it.... T in 1st! Justin Pugh

To summarize, in 15 years, 1 T in 2, 1 in 3, all others 4 or lower. Total OTs drafted: 9.

Add his 3 Panther drafts, 1 T taken in the 4th.

I realize he was on the pro side for a lot of his time there, and they had starters some years so why invest at the position, but we don't.

edit to add: Diehl apparently was drafted as a guard but played T for them I am not sure how much, as I didn't want to delve into game by game, season by season, starting lineups.

Aside from the fact Gettleman was the Director of Pro scouting for the Giants, that's some good research.

If the point you're making is that the Giants never drafted OL then the corollary is that they used Free Agency to build their O-Line....which is the area Gettleman managed.
