anybody have any experience selling these things?

i have a $20 1894 double eagle. nothing special, not mint or uncirculated or anything like that. basically, it's about 1 oz of gold and i figure i might as well sell it.

what could i expect in terms of price? i would hope that gold would carry a pretty slim margin since it's pretty much a cash equivalent.

I believe in most cases the metal value has overridden the numismatic value... but yours might be worth a couple hundred more than metal value.

Really appreciate this post. It’s hard to sort the good from the bad sometimes, but I think you’ve nailed it!

You should maybe look once to this page : http://www.goldmonexx.com There you will find information how the value can be determined from such coins. I think of course that you get much less at such a service for the sale of such a coin, as would be the case if one were to sell to a real collector. At least you can get a first insight how much money a coin is such worth. Maybe one can even write to the customer service without any obligation.
